Deadpool 3 has not started filming yet, but the movie’s cast is growing as The Crown star Emma Corrin has been chosen to play a new Marvel villain who will go up against Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman's Wolverine in their MCU debut.

Jackman's inclusion in Deadpool 3 brought a lot of excitement to what will be Marvel Studios' first R-rated feature film. However, although Wolverine's relationship with Wade Wilson has always been less than amicable, he was never expected to be the main antagonist in the film. Corrin's casting will help fans narrow down their theories regarding who the Deadpool 3 villain would be. However, at the moment, there’s no ruling out that further names could join the English actress in the bad guys' camp.

As usual, like most Deadpool news, the announcement of Corrin's casting was shared by Reynolds, who tweeted out a photo of her, extending his welcome to the mercenary family. Nevertheless, despite the actor not giving out specifics about her role, Deadline's sources confirmed Corrin plays a villain. However, no character shortlist was discussed by the outlet that could even suggest which Marvel foe she’ll be immersing herself into.

Corrin first rose to prominence for her recurring part in the now-cancelled Pennyworth series, but her role as Princess Diana in Netflix's The Crown made her a household name. This led to her landing credits in My Policeman, the upcoming Nosferatu movie, and now the MCU's Deadpool. So far, even Patrick Stewart has yet to rule out another MCU cameo in Deadpool 3, so the film’s plot is very much a mystery.

So who could Corrin play in Deadpool 3? By going with a female Marvel villain, writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick could be committing to a character like Gwenpool, an equally quirky mercenary whose multiverse origins could help tie up Deadpool 3 with the rest of the MCU. Another possibility that would make sense considering Deadpool's more obscure rogues' gallery could be Spiral since she would allow the film to use Mojo, another odd interdimensional creature from Marvel Comics.

Even in the latter’s case, many of Deadpool's enemies tend to overlap with the X-Men. With Jackman returning as Wolverine, it's about time Marvel Studios brought Professor X's gifted youngsters on board.

Deadpool 3 is scheduled for release on November 8, 2024.
