Deadpool has long been a loved, albeit not universally known, character in Marvel Comics. However, his popularity got a massive boost when he got his solo movie in 2016. Played by Ryan Reynolds, Deadpool took the world by storm and became everyone's favorite new antihero. Thanks to the film's success, a sequel followed two years later, and Deadpool is far from done.

The third movie is currently in the works, even though it's unclear when it will be released or what exactly it will be about. There are plenty of comic book storylines the third Deadpool could use, and the following would be particularly great to see on the big screen.

Updated October 12, 2022 by Patrick Armstrong: The Merc with a Mouth has been part of some great stories in comics. Sometimes it’s been in his titular title, other times in crossovers or as a guest star in someone else’s book. His irreverent approach to heroics, fourth-wall-breaking shenanigans, and stylish outfits have made him a fan favorite for years.

The character exploded into popular consciousness with his brilliant starring role in Deadpool and its sequel. It was inevitable that with a third film on the horizon, fan speculation would run wild. Deadpool has given readers an endless supply of great storylines over the years. Here are some that should make their way to the big screen.

12 Deadpool Fights Wolverine For Therapy

Deadpool Wolverine 27

Wade Wilson is arguably one of the most eccentric characters in comics. From his off-the-wall sense of humor to his tendency to address the reader directly and his knowledge about his own nature as a comic book character, Deadpool doesn’t feel much like classic heroes or antiheroes. As it is with every comic character, Deadpool has evolved with every new writer to take the reins of his story.

One controversial choice was to push Wilson’s eccentricity into the realm of mental disorder, diagnosing the character with schizophrenia. Whether this choice was in keeping with the spirit of the character, it led to one of Wade Wilson’s greatest moments. After realizing he does his best thinking in the middle of a fight, Deadpool seeks out Wolverine for a battle. Given Wolverine’s involvement in Deadpool 3, letting Wade do his thinking with his fists as he did in Deadpool #27 would be a perfect fit.

11 Deadpool And Wolverine Fight Werewolves

Wolverine Annual 99

Broadly speaking, X-Men is about the ongoing battle between Mutants, the human forces that would seek to oppress, control, and destroy them, and those Mutants that see humanity as a threat too great to remain. Tackling deep issues like acceptance, diversity, and genetics is standard for this comic franchise and its corner of the Marvel universe.

Sometimes it’s important to take a break from more serious and impactful storylines with something absurd. That was the case when the Merc with a Mouth teamed up with Wolverine in Wolverine Annual ‘99 to take on an unlikely enemy: werewolves. In addition to a great fight, this story also has some hilarious moments, even if it is a bit ridiculous, and would make an excellent addition to the cinematic canon.

10 Deadpool And Daken

Wolverine - Origins

Wolverine: Origin gave Deadpool yet another chance to meet up with and face off against Wolverine. In this series, Deadpool accepts a bounty to kill Wolverine, which leads to a prolonged and silly series of murder attempts, involving dropping a piano on Wolverine as well as other, equally ridiculous schemes.

The real highlight of this storyline is when Daken (Wolverine’s son) interrupts. Daken is an underrated character in general, and it's rare for him to cross paths with Deadpool. Having Wade, Wolverine, and Daken together in the same story is a treat, and it’s hard to imagine many moments that would be cooler on the big screen.

9 Deadpool Has A Daughter

Deadpool, his daughter and the Preston family

The MCU often works with the topic of absent or bad parents, such as Howard Stark or the missing Janet van Dyne. However, it would be interesting to see the inverse of this, and how Deadpool would do when taking care of his daughter.

Though she doesn't live with Deadpool in the comics since it would be too dangerous for her, Deadpool still goes to great lengths to make sure his daughter Eleanor is safe. This would not only allow the opportunity to watch Deadpool interact with children (which the previous movies didn't offer) but would add an extra dimension to his character.

8 Deadpool Fights Zombies

Deadpool and zombie presidents

Deadpool has never been one to shy away from challenges. He faced many opponents in the comics, but among the most remarkable ones are zombie American presidents. Deadpool has to confront them and kill them, which he doesn't hesitate to do.

Zombie movies are very popular among audiences, and it would be fun to see Deadpool deal with these creatures. This storyline could even serve to teach viewers a bit about former American presidents and do so in an action-filled, fun way.

7 Deadpool & Spider-Man Become Allies (Or Friends)

Deadpool and Spider-Man

Seeing Deadpool interact with Spider-Man on the big screen is a dream come true for many fans of the comics. In the source material, these two often work together. Spider-Man isn't so excited about Deadpool, but he's one of the few people who tolerate him and perhaps even like him.

As for Deadpool, he likes Spider-Man and even flirts with him from time to time. The movie would probably cut back on the flirting considering Spider-Man's age in the MCU; however, the film could still explore the idea of Spidey and Deadpool as a duo that likes to joke while dealing with their enemies.

6 Deadpool Marries A Vampire Queen

Deadpool Shiklah

Deadpool had a relationship with Vanessa in the first movie, but he lost her in the second one. His third solo story, meanwhile, could have him find a new love in the form of Shiklah. The beautiful and ambitious Shiklah becomes a vampire queen after Deadpool helps her deal with the unwanted fiancé, Dracula.

The relationship between them has its ups and downs, but in the comics, it ends with a wedding. It would be interesting to see new supernatural creatures introduced in the MCU, especially with living vampire Michael Morbius' solo film scheduled to release soon.

5 Deadpool's Pansexuality

Black Widow Natasha Romanoff in What If...?

While the previous two movies made a few references to it, the films never properly addressed the fact that Deadpool is pansexual in the comics. He has multiple relationships with women (such as Black Widow, to name just one), but likes guys equally, as well as pretty much everybody who fits his taste.

Including this aspect of Deadpool's character would add more realism to the superhero universe. Currently, it continues to favor straight relationships and could use more LGBT+ representation to reflect the way the world really is.

4 Deadpool & Deadpool

Dinosaur Deadpool

There have been multiple versions of Deadpool in the comics. One of the most intriguing ones is Headpool, a zombie head of Deadpool. Bringing Headpool and Deadpool together could be hilarious, especially if the creators connected it to the story about the zombie American presidents.

Another interesting version of Deadpool is the dinosaur Deadpool, a T-Rex that has Deadpool's powers. Considering the widespread love for both Deadpool and dinosaurs, a dinosaur Deadpool would be like a dream come true for many fans.

3 Rogue & Deadpool

Deadpool and Rogue kiss

If the movies want to give Deadpool a new girlfriend, there are plenty of opportunities in addition to Shiklah. For example, the creators could use this opportunity to reboot Rogue in the MCU. This powerful mutant first became Deadpool's friend, and later returned his long-existing romantic feelings.

Even though they ultimately didn't last, they were still a great power couple, and seeing them team up would be intriguing. The two have more things in common one might think, such as their less-than-shiny pasts.

2 Deadpool Travels Through Time

Time travel in the MCU isn't new, since the Avengers used it to defeat Thanos and reverse the Snap. However, time travel done by Deadpool would be very different. Deadpool didn't quite manage things right during his trip through time, and he brought back dinosaurs from his journey.

Once again, this would not only make for a lot of action and funny sequences but could potentially create a bridge between two great storylines: this one and the one about dinosaur Deadpool. Even three storylines could come together since Deadpool teams up with Spider-Man in this story!

1 Lady Deadpool

Lady Deadpool

Finally, if the third Deadpool movie wants to pull "a Loki," they could bring in a female version of Deadpool, known as Lady Deadpool. Knowing Deadpool, he would probably fall for Lady Deadpool and try to win her over but, she'd be less than impressed.

One Deadpool is fun enough but two would be even more hilarious, especially if they ended up competing to decide which of them is better. Wacky hijinks are sure to ensue.
