Production of the original Game Boy by Nintendo may have ceased in 2003, but that hasn’t stopped game developers from continuing to create games for the 8-bit handheld console. In 2019, indie developer -IZMA- released the digital version of the his original Game Boy title Deadeus on the gaming site itch.io.

However, quite a few gamers undoubtedly still have an original Game Boy console, whether stored in a box or proudly displayed on a shelf, and now there is a reason to dust it off. On January 5, -IZMA- and publisher Spacebot Interactive announced that the physical version of Deadeus for the original Game Boy is now available for preorder through February 15.

A top-down horror adventure game, Deadeus follows the story of a small boy who has a prophetic nightmare warning him that everyone will die in three days. It’s up to him to investigate his village and find a way to save them if he can. The game features 11 different endings, leaving it up to the player to decide the best course of action and paving the way for multiple playthroughs.

Deadeus features music composed by Stuart Busby and was developed using Chris Maltby’s GB Studio engine. The physical version of the game is fully compatible with the original Game Boy, Game Boy Color, and Game Boy Advance handheld consoles. It will come packaged in a classic Game Boy box, complete with game manual.

In addition to Deadeus, fans of the handheld device can still find other games for the original Game Boy. In October, a fan of ZA/UM's award-winning title Disco Elysium ported the RPG to Game Boy and released the ROM on itch.io.

Deadeus is available for preorder for the original Game Boy.
