There’s a lot to learn in the Dead Space remake, and the logs provide a delicate and interesting level of lore. There’s not only lore from the original Dead Space, but further expanded lore from the remake that will explore Isaac Clarke, the Necromorphs, and Unitology as a whole, making for some cool lore details revealed in the Dead Space Remake.

8 Isaac Clarke’s Parents

Before the USG Kellion is blown to bits, Isaac Clarke can remain onboard and collect a text log from Hammond. This text log titled Background Request features a very in-depth look at Isaac Clarke’s background. From his parentage to his education as an engineer. Most notably, the text log talks about Isaac Clarke’s mother.

The relationship between Isaac Clarke and his mother seems to be a close one and a tragedy. The log reveals that Isaac’s mother, Octavia, was a devoted Unitologist, and she killed Isaac’s father and herself so that their bodies could be taken by the Church of Unitology, much to Isaac Clarke’s hatred of the Church.

7 Operation: White Light

One of the most interesting lore logs is found aboard the crashed vessel, the USM Valor. On board, Isaac Clarke can find the “Orders” log in the meeting room, which details Operation White Light. Here, players will discover the true intention of EarthGov, as a special unit of soldiers was sent to retrieve the Marker 3A and kill everyone on board the USG Ishimura.

What Operation White Light reveals is that if the USM Valor never picked up the escape pod with the Necromorph version of Chen, then Isaac Clarke and everyone would be dead, as the soldiers on board would kill them and use a nuclear warhead to wipe out the evidence.

6 Unitologist Mutiny

Unitologists seem to be everywhere in the future of Dead Space. As said by the worrisome first officer of the USG Ishimura, D. White, “Goddamn Unis are running the ship.” This text log titled “White’s List” details all the important members aboard the USG Ishimura that are a part of Unitology.

Such notable members include the captain, as well as two important doctors on board as senior officers. D. White makes note of how he’s clearly on a mission that isn’t what it seems, but sadly, it’s too late, as he knows a stacked deck when he sees one.

5 Mercer’s Hunter

When it came to the original release of Dead Space, the identity behind the Hunter was naught but speculation. However, the Dead Space remake answers a few questions that were left unresolved in the original. Thanks to the many audio logs and side missions in Dead Space, players will discover the relationship between doctor and patient with Mercer and Harris.

With logs like “Harris’s Choice”, there are detailed events of conversations and manipulative tactics from Doctor Mercer, as he experiments on his patient, Harris. These lore logs reveal the identity of the Hunter and the ominous future that the Marker was telling Harris.

4 Isaac And Nicole’s Last Conversation

One of the newest additions to the lore logs in the Dead Space Remake comes from the new feature of side missions. One of these side missions includes Isaac Clarke following Nicole’s RIG activity, as he searches for her on the Ishimura. Instead, he is faced with their past, and her activity during the initial rampage of the Marker’s undoing of humanity.

At the end of this side mission, audiences watch Isaac and Nicole’s last conversation, before he boarded the Ishimura. It’s interesting to see the insight into their relationship, and how it had its ups and downs.

3 Eternal Rest

The Marker may be an oddity, and why the USG Ishimura has stumbled upon it or sought it, maybe a mystery to some. However, if players find the text log Eternal Rest, they will find more answers. In this text log, it is revealed that Captain Mathius, the captain of the USG Ishimura, was instructed to retrieve the Marker, and bring it back to Earth.

In doing so, Captain Mathius’ body would be laid to rest aboard the same vessel that holds Altman, the founder of Unitology. It gives motivation to Mathius, and a selfish one at that which shows just how unknowing, or willing, he was in this whole situation.

2 Convergence

As Isaac Clarke navigates through the horrors of the USG Ishimura, one word will continue to jump out: Convergence. Isaac and the player may be confused about what this means, or what the ultimate goal of a Convergence is. However, thanks to text logs left behind by Doctor Mercer, answers become clearer.

It’s great to get some understanding of Convergence, even if players have to hunt for it. In the file titled Mercer’s Journal, players will be able to read about Convergence, and Mercer’s thoughts on the event, providing insight into his decisions, and the horrific future of a Convergence event.

1 Unitology Everywhere

When players embark into an entirely new world with its own set of established lore in Dead Space, many might wonder what is Unitology. Luckily for them, there’s some great lore on Unitology in the text log: Unitology Article. This log details some facts about Unitology, from its creation, creator, and rumors circulating the religion.

The scary truth behind Unitology is the indoctrination and manipulation through the hope of a better life. People have been torn apart through Unitology, and Unitologists will use this grief and confusion to bring more into their flock. It’s an interesting text to read and to understand Isaac Clarke’s hatred for Unitology, and his desires to use a Plasma Cutter on them.

Dead Space is available now on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
