Electronic Arts has just released a teaser trailer, announcing an upcoming livestream dedicated to the Dead Space remake. Months have passed since the developer showed a glimpse of pre-production gameplay; this time fans can finally hope to see something more substantial.

Dead Space is a sci-fi survival horror video game saga, and the remake in the works at Motive Studios will faithfully recreate the plot of the first installment in the series, which originally came out in 2008. Players take on the role of crewman Isaac Clarke, tasked with investigating a distress call coming from the massive mining ship USG Ishimura, only to become the target of necromorphs, violent undead creatures driven to murder and infect all they encounter.

The brief teaser trailer announces a livestream which will occur March 11 at 10:00 AM PST on the same YouTube channel. The event will likely show a bit of gameplay from the upcoming title, with the teaser trailer not revealing any meaningful detail. Hopefully, the game will be shown in an advanced stage of development. Surprisingly little has been shown, so far, of one of the most anticipated titles of 2022.

The remake of Dead Space has resurrected a franchise whose last game, Dead Space 3, dates back to 2013. Despite being a remake, a clue suggests Motive Studios will expand on the first title's gameplay, perhaps leading to a certain degree of open-world experience, a significant endeavor for a game set in claustrophobic environments.

EA Motive has to make a difficult decision in choosing what to keep of the original game, and what to innovate. Some areas of Dead Space could indeed be improved upon, like the fan-favorite Isaac death animations. Given the variety of enemies, it would be possible for the developer to add quite a number of new, gruesome animations brimming with details, especially those related to the new necromorphs announced.

Despite being highly anticipated, the success of Dead Space remake is far from granted, especially given the competition of fellow horror game The Callisto Protocol, coming from a studio founded by one of Dead Space's co-creators. EA Motive should avoid some likely mistakes in remaking the classic, focusing on what made the original great: emphasis on horror, adequate length, and careful writing of Isaac's limited dialogue.

The Dead Space remake is set to release in late 2022 on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
