Over two hours' worth of Dead Space gameplay footage has now leaked via YouTube, showing off the remake's rendition of the 2008 horror classic's emblematic introductory sequence. With the release of Electronic Arts and EA Motive's long-awaited title looming close by, the community is already excited to play it, and everything points to it being an impressively authentic experience.
While EA did release 20 minutes of Dead Space gameplay in early December 2022, giving players a sense of how the whole thing may pan out, this footage pales in comparison to the new leak. Far more substantial in content, the new video provides a solid overview of what the players ought to expect from the remake, though it's worth pointing out that EA Motive wanted to keep the intro sequence closer to the original than the later parts of the game may be.
The Dead Space gameplay footage in question was posted by YouTube user TheJSR67, who captured it on their PlayStation 5 console. Curiously, while TheJSR67 streamed their gameplay directly to YouTube, EA doesn't seem to have reacted in any meaningful way just yet, whereas it usually doesn't take long for mainstream publishers to take leaks down. Players interested in the game can, therefore, get a pretty good idea of what the remake actually plays like, and the comments seem to be almost universally positive so far.
It may be worth pointing out that Dead Space's official Trophy list leaked out very recently, too. With the amount of hype and excitement surrounding the game, it's not particularly strange that those who have it early would want to share their experience with the rest of the community, and since the game will be launching on all platforms in just a few days' time, the hype won't end up fizzling out before it could be capitalized upon.
There are a bunch of things players need to know about Dead Space. A true-to-form remake in all the ways that matter, the game is still going to make a few notable changes to the gameplay, narrative, and progression systems of the 2008 classic. Important quality-of-life changes have already been detailed, such as an improved map screen, and while it's still unclear just how big the changes are to the story, the atmosphere is going to remain the same as it was back in the day.
On consoles, Dead Space offers multiple performance options for players to choose from. The leaked footage seems to be leveraging Frostbite engine's raytracing implementation, which caps the game at 30 frames per second. Of course, the nuances of a solid raytracing feature set will be lost on heavily compressed YouTube footage, so the final product is bound to look way better once it launches.
Dead Space releases on January 27 for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
