After crash landing on the USG Ishimura during the first chapter of Dead Space, Isaac Clarke and the rest of the crew of the USG Kellion quickly discovered that the Ishimura is in far worse shape than it appeared from the outside. Aside from all the damage, the ship is overrun by monsters that were once the crew.

Now that they are trapped onboard the ship, Isaac, Hammond, and Kendra have no choice but to discover what happened onboard the Ishimura. In the second chapter of Dead Space, Isaac goes to the Medical Deck to find the body of Captain Mathius while also looking for Nicole. Here is what players can expect as they start Chapter 2, Intensive Care.

This walkthrough contains spoilers, so players should proceed with caution.

Grab the Kinesis Module

dead-space-remake-chapter-2-walkthrough1

Instead of using the tram, players have to go through a maintenance hallway that connects the Hangar Bay and the Medical Deck. Right as the second chapter begins, players should keep an eye out for a Kinesis Module next to a body. Kinesis allows players to pick up and move large objects. Kinesis can also be used to throw objects at enemies and kill them, and there is an achievement/trophy for ripping a limb off of a still active Necromorph.

Objects that can be moved with Kinesis have a small symbol on them, keep an eye out for it.

Right next to where players picked up the Kinesis module are a series of boxes that players can move. Once they have been cleared, move forward to arrive at the tram station for Medical. In the original version of the game, the dying crew member gave players the Kinesis module. In the remake, however, players will instead get the Pulse Rifle from her when she dies.

The Barricade

As players arrive in the lobby for Medical, they will see that the door that leads to the morgue is blocked off by a crudely made barricade. In order to get past the barricade, players will need to find a Shock Pad and a canister of Hydrazine. The first step is to find the Hydrazine. Follow the locator to reach a room with a circuit breaker that has no power.

In order to restore power, players will need to find the nearby battery and insert it into the slot next to the circuit breaker. This will allow players to use the circuit breaker to gain access to both the elevator and the nearby rooms. The room next to the elevator has a Power Node inside, so players will want to make sure to grab that before proceeding up the elevator.

Find the Hydrazine Canister

Just up ahead, players will encounter both a vacuum and zero gravity. Players will know they are in a vacuum when a countdown appears above their health bar. This indicates how much oxygen players have left. If players run out of air they will die, so make sure to keep an eye out for oxygen recharge stations on walls along with oxygen tanks that can be picked up.

Beyond the area where life support has failed, players will enter an area with zero gravity (zero-g for short). In the remake of Dead Space, zero-g works the same as it did in both Dead Space 2 and Dead Space 3 where players have full 360 degree movement and are not limited to just jumping from wall to wall. If players are not familiar with how zero-g works, this room is a good place to practice and get a feel for moving around.

When ready, move into the room ahead to find the Hydrazine Canister on a desk. Before leaving the room, look up toward the locker and use Kinesis to pull down 400 Credits that are just sitting up there.

Find the Shock Pad

After grabbing the Hydrazone Canister, head back through both the zero-g area and the hallway with no life support. The door is blocked, so players will need to use zero-g to fly up to the next floor where there is an elevator shaft that they can go down to reach the next area. While following the locator, keep an eye out for a schematic for Pulse Rounds. This path leads back to where the barricade is.

Move on to the next area indicated by the locator. Upon entering a large room, quarantine will be triggered as several Necromorphs enter the room via the vents. In order to lift the quarantine, players will need to kill all Necromorphs on both the top and bottom level of this area. There are a lot of side rooms and offices in this area, so players will want to explore before moving on.

One noteworthy area is Nicole's office. Upon picking up the audio log in her office, players will start a side quest that gives players insight into what Nicole was doing when the Necromorph outbreak occurred. For players interested in learning more backstory, there is also a hologram of Dr. Kyne and Captain Mathius talking in Dr. Kyne's office.

After moving on, players will witness an event where a crew member of the Ishimura gets brutally killed by a baby Necromorph known as a Lurker. Once the event is over, go into the room and get ready to fight the Lurker. Wait until three tentacles emerge from its back and then shoot them off to kill it.

Proceed onward to reach a room where the Shock Pad is. Before players can claim it, they must first use the nearby circuit breaker to turn off power to the device that is using the Shock Pad. Once the device is off, players can safely claim the Shock Pad and will have everything they need to destroy the barricade. Before leaving this room, make sure to grab the Power Node from the box on the wall.

Destroy the Barricade

Return to the lobby where the barricade is. Place the Hydrazine and the Shock Pad onto the barricade and then quickly move into the nearby side room with a window. Upon entering this room, the barricade will be destroyed and players will be free to proceed. Just beyond the barricade is a weapon upgrade for the Plasma Cutter. When picked up, it opens up additional nodes and special abilities that players can unlock with Power Nodes.

While going through the ER section, if players started the Nicole side quest, they will come across a hologram of Nicole trying to treat a patient. She will then walk through a wall. To progress this side quest, players will need to use Kinesis to open a hidden door where there is an audio log from Nicole. After this, the side quest updates and players are told to go to Engineering. If players are still working through Chapter 2, they will not be able to go there yet.

In order to proceed with the main mission, Dead Space players will need to turn off all the power on the nearby circuit breaker to remove the battery from it. Take the battery to the slot on the other side of the roomto open the door. Follow this hallway to the morgue.

Get the Captain's Rig

dead-space-remake-chapter-2-walkthrough10

The body of Captain Mathius is inside the Autopsy Room of the morgue. Upon approaching the body, a flying Necromorph known as an Infector swoops down and grabs the corpse. In a brief cutscene, players witness the violent transformation of the body into a Necromorph. The Captain is turned into a basic Slasher, so players should have no trouble defeating him. Once the Captain has been defeated, along with the Infector that is still roaming around, return to the table where the Captain's body was and grab his Rig.

After a brief conversation with Hammond, players will get their Security Clerance upgraded to Level 1. This will allow players to open doors, lockers, and boxes that require Level 1 Security Clearance. This also includes the elevator that leads out of the morgue.

Before long, players discover that the Ishimura is in danger of being dragged down onto Aegis VII with the giant chunk of rock it is tethered to. To prevent this, players will need to board the Tram and go to Engineering. In order to get there, however, players will need to go to the Hangar Bay and take a little walk on the outside of the Ishimura. Upon arriving at the Hangar Bar, the second chapter ends.

Dead Space is available now on PlayStation 5, Steam, and Xbox Series X/S.
