Despite the setback that Isaac encountered during the previous chapter, the final chapter of Dead Space begins with Isaac arriving at Aegis VII with Nicole and the Marker. Dr. Kyne believed that if the Marker is returned to the planet, it will end the threat of the Hive Mind and the Necromorphs.

This chapter gives players a change of scenery, and plays out almost exactly the same as it did in the 2008 version of the game minus a few changes. That said, here is what Dead Space players can expect as they go through the final chapter of the game, 'Dead Space'.

This walkthrough contains significant spoilers, so players should proceed with caution.RELATED: Dead Space Remake Review

Unload the Marker

Leave the shuttle and go down the ramp toward a terminal outside. Using this terminal will unload the Marker from the shuttle and place it onto a cart. Unfortunately, the Marker will not be able to go far as there is no power for the door that blocks it from going anywhere. Go inside the building and look for the server room. Inside this room is a battery along with an Infector. Kill the Infector before it can turn any bodies into Necromorphs.

Insert the battery into the slot outside and begin moving the Marker back to its pedestal further ahead. Periodically, Dead Space players will need to use a terminal to activate a cycle that closes one door and opens the one that allows players to continue moving the Marker. Just like in the previous chapter, players will periodically have to lift a bridge to allow the Marker to keep moving. In the first large room that players enter, they will have to kill all the Necromorphs that emerge to end the quarantine.

How to Activate the Tether Generator

Before long, players will run into a new problem. The rest of the track is blocked off as there is no power to the area due to the tether generator being down. To the right of this room is a door that is protected by two Guardians. Kill both of these embedded Necromorphs and then go through the door to reach the generator.

At the generator, players will see four screens. The top three screens are for west, central, and east generators while the fourth screen is a control panel for the generator. In order to restore power, all three generators must have batteries installed. In this room, there are three batteries, and they are all partially hidden behind boxes that can be moved with kinesis. When all three batteries have been found and installed, the fourth terminal will be operable.

With the generator now running, the whole area loses gravity. In order to get back to the Marker, players will have to fly up through the shaft toward the surface. The problem, however, is that there are a series of spinning fans that make it impossible to get through in one piece. On top of that, parts of the shaft are blocked off by tendrils. Look for glowing blisters to shoot and use stasis to slow down the fans so that it is safe to go up.

Escort the Marker

Upon returning to where the Marker is waiting, players will be attacked by a group of Necromorphs consisting of Exploders and a Brute. Take them out and continue using terminals to allow the Marker to move along the track. Use the terminal near gates to allow the Marker to go into the next room. On top of using terminals to lift platforms blocking the way, there are also tendrils that will need to be destroyed as well.

The Marker emits a field that slows Necromorphs if they get too close to it. Necromorphs slowed by the Marker will glow red. Make sure to take advantage of this effect.

Eventually the Marker will move down the rail toward the outside where the pedestal is. A lot of tendrils block the path forward, so players will need to scour the area and search for every single glowing blister in the area. Some are well hidden and cannot be accessed until some tendrils are destroyed. With all the tendrils destroyed, the Marker will continue to move toward the pedestal. As it gets closer, more and more Necromorphs will come out in an attempt to stop players.

Leave Aegis VII

A brief cutscene will play once the Marker is back on the pedestal, Nicole will thank Isaac for helping her. The Marker will glow brightly and the payload being held in orbit begins to fall. To try and stop the payload from falling, run into the building next to the pedestal and try to use the terminal to restart the tethers holding the payload.

Unfortunately, it is far too late to stop the payload from dropping. To make matters worse, Kendra shows up and takes the Marker off of the pedestal. During this time, she also reveals the truth about who Nicole really is and that the Marker used Isaac. Once the cutscene is over, go through a long series of hallways to reach the shuttle. Along the way, open every locker and container to gather supplies. Use the store and bench for any last minute upgrades/purchases, and then save the game. Once players go outside and approach the shuttle, the final battle will begin.

How to Beat the Hive Mind

After a brief cutscene, a massive Necromorph will emerge. This is the Hive Mind, and it is the final boss. Like the other boss fights in Dead Space, the Hive Mind boss fight has had some significant changes made to it.

In order to damage the Hive Mind, players will need to shoot and destroy the five glowing parts on its mouth. As these parts are destroyed, the Hive Mind will spit out large glowing globs onto the floor. It will then follow this up by smashing one of its tentacles down, destroying the globs and causing them to explode. While these globs can be destroyed by players, it takes a lot of ammo, so it is better to just move away from where the tentacle is about to smash down.

Once all five glowing spots have been destroyed, the Hive Mind will pull back and watch as Necromorphs climb up the rails to assist it. During this time, the Hive Mind will not attack. Kill all the Necromorphs and the second phase of this boss fight will begin.

During the second phase, the only way to damage the Hive Mind is by shooting the glowing parts inside its chest. These weak points can only be shot when the Hive Mind opens its chest between attacks. When one of the glowing parts are destroyed, the Hive Mind will shoot out a line of acid. Dodge the acid while also being mindful of the tentacles that will still be slamming down.

After spraying acid, the HIve Mind will always unleash four tentacle slams in the same order. The order of tentacles is as follows: right tentacle, left tentacle, right tentacle, left tentacle.

After the tentacles are done slamming down, the chest will open again and players will be able to shoot another weak point. The Hive Mind will unleash its attacks and then its chest will open again. Repeat this process until all weak points have been destroyed. At this point, the Hive Mind will grab players and a new weak spot will appear in its mouth. Destroy this last weak spot as fast as possible to avoid dying horribly. When the final weak point is destroyed, the Hive Mind will die and players will unlock an achievement/trophy. All that is left is to run onto the shuttle and enjoy the ending.

Dead Space is available now on PlayStation 5, Steam, and Xbox Series X/S.
