The attempt to call for rescue during the previous chapters of Dead Space went horribly awry. Now the USM Valor has crashed into the USG Ishimura, and is no longer space worthy. While the situation may be dire, Isaac goes onboard the ruins of the USM Valor in hopes that the Singularity Core is still intact.

While this may be a shorter chapter in the game, there are still many hazards and enemies that players will need to be prepared to deal with. Here is what Dead Space players can expect as they begin the ninth chapter, 'Dead on Arrival'.

This walkthrough contains spoilers, so players should proceed with caution.

Board the USM Valor

The first thing that players will need to do is go through the airlock for the USM Valor. Shortly after boarding, players will find out that there is a nuke aboard the USM Valor, and it needs to be removed before something makes it explode in the state that is currently in. The nuke is further ahead, so move further into the Valor.

Just up ahead, Dead Space players will encounter a type of Necromorph called Twitchers. This unique variant of Necromorph moves incredibly fast and is difficult to dismember due to how quickly it can run. Try to slow it with stasis when it gets close and then move back to dismember it. In the briefing room is a battery, take it and insert it into the socket outside this room to reach the torpedo bay where the nuke is. Watch out for the Infector and Twitchers nearby.

How to Release the Warhead

Due to the crash, the nuke is now unstable. All it will take is one explosion and both the USM Valor and USG Ishimura will be completely destroyed. The only way to remove this hazard is to release the nuke and let it float off into space. To do this, Dead Spaceplayers will need to destroy all six fuses around the nuke.

While shooting the fuses, Exploders will enter the room. Do not shoot the explosive part of their bodies. Aim for their other limbs and do not let them get close enough to self-destruct. Even just one explosion causes the nuke to go off and players die instantly.

Once the six fuses have been destroyed and the Exploders have been safely dismembered, look for a battery nearby and insert it into the socket. This will restore power to the terminal that allows players to safely remove the nuke from the USM Valor.

When the nuke is gone, players can proceed into the next room. Up ahead is a surgical machine that has gone haywire and is spinning around rapidly with a laser. As part of a scripted event, a Twitcher will run into the laser and get torn to shreds. To avoid ending up like the Twitcher, use stasis on the machine and run past it when the lasers are not blocking the path forward. Be prepared for a fight in the next area, as quarantine will kick in as Necromorphs emerge from the vents. Players will also have to deal with a Brute as well, just like in the fourth chapter.

How to Get Rid of the Fire

Further ahead, there is a room filled with fire. The middle of the room has a burst of fire that comes through periodically while the left and right have fire constantly pouring out of a series of broken liquid hydrogen pipes. Just like with the traps in the seventh chapter, use a nearby box to block off the flames.

Use the boxes to gradually move across the room toward a circuit breaker. Turn off the power to the emergency fire suppression system and the fire coming from the pipes will be gone.

Grab the Singularity Core

Move forward to reach the room with the Singularity Core. A glass wall suddenly raises and blocks off players from reaching Hammond and a brief cutscene will play. Once both Hammond and the Necromorph that was once Chen are gone, move toward the Singularity Core and grab it.

At this point, the USM Valor begins to explode. Follow the locator and run as fast as possible. After exiting the USM Valor, a brief cutscene will play with Isaac getting tossed around in zero gravity. With the Singularity Core in hand, it is time to find the shuttle that is somewhere on the Crew Deck. This is where the ninth chapter ends.

Dead Space is available now on PlayStation 5, Steam, and Xbox Series X/S.
