Motive Studio, the developer of the upcoming remake of Dead Space, has officially revealed both the game's PC hardware requirements and two special graphics modes that will be available for console players to choose from. Featuring a fully rebuilt and retooled version of the legendary planet-cracker USG Ishimura, the remake of the first entry to the classic horror franchise is no slouch in the graphics department.As the recently released 20 minutes of Dead Space gameplay footage plainly showed, the game is a substantial visual upgrade to the 2008 original. Built on top of EA's often-used Frostbite engine, the new Dead Space title is going to enjoy all the modern bells and whistles that modern audiences are used to, and with the ability to choose whether to favor performance or graphical fidelity.Atmospheric and gritty, many people feel that 2008's Dead Space graphics still hold up to this day. The 2023 remake is, however, worlds apart, though it's immediately evident that the new title paid close attention to the original's visual language and style. In fact, the first Dead Space was praised for its dynamic shadows, and the remake is going to feature full-fledged raytracing, should the player choose to use this tech in the first place. On Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5, players will have the opportunity to choose between RT-enabled 4K/30 FPS mode and RT-disabled 2K/60 FPS mode, depending on their preference.
Being one of the most highly anticipated games of January 2023, Dead Space is also going to be a very desirable game on PC, where hardware requirements and graphical settings play a significant role. Motive Studio revealed that the relatively humble Nvidia RTX 2070 and the Radeon RX 6700 XT are the recommended GPU baseline. It's worth pointing out, however, that no details have been provided as to the target resolution and frame rate on PC, making this information less useful than it could've been.
The expectations for 2023's Dead Space remake are, unsurprisingly, rather high. From what footage has been revealed so far, Motive Studio has done an admirable job at staying true to what makes Dead Space special. At the same time, fans of the IP will need to wait until the early reviews are in to be able to tell whether the game is quite as good as it seems to be.
In fact, some horror fans may be suspicious of Dead Space following what many people feel was a poor showing by former DS developer Glen Schofield. Specifically, The Callisto Protocol hasn't achieved its sales targets, and given that the game was billed as a spiritual successor to Dead Space, it's not hard to imagine that many players may wait and see how the remake fares in practice before splurging on it.
Dead Space launches on January 27 for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
