Before the reboot of Dead Space, the franchise said its final goodbyes with Dead Space3. The game was considered controversial for its elements of co-op and action. The title put aside its more isolated horror roots for a more gun-blazing experience, but that doesn’t make Dead Space3 a bad game.

There are plenty of things that Dead Space3 does better than the other games in the Dead Space series from EA. The third game of the franchise takes Isaac Clarke and Sgt. John Carver to a planet called Tau Volantis to deal with a Necromorph outbreak.

6 Co-op Experience

Dead Space 3 may not be the scariest entry in the series, but it certainly can be the most fun with a friend. Players can enjoy Dead Space3 as a co-op experience, with one player taking the role of Isaac Clarke and the other as John Carver. Co-op can open up new missions, character development, and intrigue.

Not only is there more content for those that play co-op, but the game is also immensely more fun. Players can experience the chills and thrills together, and take on the Necromoprh hordes as a duo, which means plenty of stomping and messing around whilst trying to save the world.

5 Side Missions

The first two Dead Space titles had a central focus on a linear storyline. Players would aim to survive and navigate their way to the end. Dead Space3 gives players more freedom to explore, especially in the space section of the game, where side missions seem to be plentiful.

There are plenty of side missions in Dead Space3 which further add to the experience of the game. Some of these missions are missable, some are locked behind co-op, and others are extremely fun. They're worth investing in for the lore, loot, and potential fright that lies ahead.

4 Deeper Lore

There's always a deeper mystery that lurks in the Dead Space titles. The Necromoprhs, the Markers, all matter of being, it's something that is hinted at but never explored to the fullest degree. That was, until Dead Space3. The game greatly teased the origins of the Markers, the first of the Necromorphs, and the harsh reality of their purpose.

There's a far deeper reading into the lore of Dead Space3 than the previous games, as the characters believe that they've found the source of all Necromoprhs, the planet known as Taus Volantis. It may be a freezing wasteland, but answers are sure to be had in this strange new world.

3 Weapon Crafting

Finding weapons is the way of the past because when it comes to Dead Space3, players will be responsible for their weaponry. The game has crafting benches and materials that can be used to create ammunition and weapons. Whether it's from DLC, blueprints, or just making the gun up as the player goes along.

There's almost limitless potential in what kind of weapons players can make. They can have a double shotgun, a flamethrower, and a plasma cutter that fires like a machine gun. The choice is entirely in the hands of the player. It makes combat a lot more fun and experimental, as it’s up to the player how they go about choosing their weaponry, and what upgrades and attachments they provide it.

2 RIG Outfits

Third-person games always open the player up to the idea of customization. Players like to see how far they and their character have come in this shared journey, and Dead Space3 allows for a wider selection of just that. There are plenty of RIG Stations in Dead Space3, and on top of receiving visual upgrades with every stat increase, players can choose from a wide selection of armors that they have unlocked or purchased.

Different RIG suits can be obtained through side missions, exploring, DLC, or just playing through the story. Both Isaac Clarke and John Carver have their outfits to stay distinct from one another, but the fact that players can choose their preferred attire means not only can they kill Necromoprhs in style, but they can provide their character with their flair.

1 DLC Cliffhanger

The Dead Space3ending left much to be desired. It wasn't a satisfying conclusion to the series, especially with the Dead Space3 post-credits tease. However, the game was the first in the series to receive a story DLC, an add-on that went past Dead Space3's story into an epilogue, or, a tease of what's to come for a never released Dead Space 4.

This DLC was called Awakened and saw the series return to its horror roots. The DLC was scary, with hallucinations and cultist extremists bound. The DLC also did something the games hadn't done prior, which is to leave the franchise with an ultimate twist, that John Carver and Isaac Clarke had led the Markers home, to Earth. This is where the game ends, and Dead Space 4 seems forever unlikely. Perhaps the fate of these characters will alter depending on the direction of the franchise after the Dead Space reboot.
