  • Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster will be released on September 18 with improved graphics and gameplay.

On July 1, Capcom announced the official release date for Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster as part of the NEXT showcase, but new information has emerged to suggest that the voice of Frank West has been recast ahead of the re-release. The main character, Frank West, sounded a lot different in the new trailer than he did in the original 2006 version of Dead Rising. At that time, Frank was voiced by Terence J. Rotolo, an actor also known for minor roles in Netflix's The Guilty and the 2020 action/western film Disturbing the Peace.

Rotolo provided the voice for Frank West in Dead Rising, Dead Rising 2: Case West, Dead Rising 2: Off the Record, Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3, and Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite. The character was absent from the franchise's third direct sequel, Dead Rising 3, but Rotolo was replaced by Ty Olsson for Dead Rising 4, Peter von Gomm for Tatsunoko vs. Capcom: Ultimate All-Stars, and Scott McNeil for Puzzle Fighter. In the 2015 live-action Dead Rising film, Frank was portrayed by retired United States Marine Rob Riggle.

Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster Has Controversial Feature on PC

The upcoming Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster will have a controversial feature that can only be found on its PC version.

According to an exchange shared by FrankByDaylight on Twitter, Rotolo responded to a fan's inquiry as to why he wouldn't be reprising his role as Frank for Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster. Rotolo's response was a fairly straightforward one, as he stated that Capcom simply never asked him to return, but elaborated on how he has enjoyed portraying the character thus far and expressed his affection for the Dead Rising community as a whole. "The answer to your question is I have no answer," Rotolo said. "All I can say is that I've always been grateful for every opportunity to help bring Frank to life. An actor's job when called upon is to show up prepared, deliver your best, and when done, move on to the next mission; I simply wasn't called for the mission. The reasons are the producers' own." While Capcom's decision to leave out Rotolo is an interesting one, there's still ways for Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster to improve upon the franchise's past mistakes.

Terence J. Rotolo Replaced As Voice of Frank West in Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster

Details regarding Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster were scarce prior to Capcom's summer showcase, which also shared footage of Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess and Resident Evil 7: Biohazard for iOS and Mac. Capcom has now confirmed that Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster will release on September 18. Developer Rysosuke Murai also announced that the Dead Rising remaster will run at 4K 60fps on the RE Engine, and will include the ability to move while aiming, as well as improvements to interactive NPCs to enhance the game's atmosphere.

The lack of Terence J. Rotolo in Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster may be a deal-breaker for some fans, while others will be more focused on the prospect of a new Dead Rising game. The last main game came in 2016 with Dead Rising 4, a sequel that missed the mark both critically and commercially, even if it did have some of the best crafting in any horror game. With any luck, Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster will be successful enough to revive the series, even without Rotolo.
