A mechanic of Dead Island 2 that not many players are talking about has to be the whole 'Zombie Parts' system the game introduces shortly after players reach Venice Beach. These different parts, pulled from all sorts of different regular and Apex Zombies, are used in creating Autophage Skills and Perks for weapons.

10 Best Games To Play If You Love DayZ
Fans of the survival themes executed in DayZ should check out these titles for an equally thrilling experience.
These Skills and Perks are some of the strongest options in Dead Island 2 and have some incredibly unique effects. There are Autophage Skills that cause explosions on Critical Hits, ones that create clouds of Caustic-X mist when a zombie is killed, and much more. But, crafting these Autophage Perks/Skills requires a lot of Parts from all sorts of different zombies, and Blueprints need even more specific Parts, so let's go over where exactly players can find each Part and the best methods for farming them.
Updated October 8th, 2023 by Jacob Buchalter: Dead Island 2 is a massive game, but most players are easily in the post-game content by now or have long since moved past it. However, since this Zompocalypse survival game has two big DLCs coming in late 2023 and early 2024, a lot of players are starting to pay attention to Dead Island 2 again. So, for those who are just starting out, or for those who are coming back to their playthroughs after a long break, let's go over exactly where each Zombie Part can be found. And for those who need a bit of a refresher, Zombie Parts are basically crafting materials in Dead Island 2, only instead of using wood and cobblestone to build a pickaxe in something like Minecraft, players are slapping Blast Glants onto baseball bats in Dead Island 2 for some explosive results.
All Zombie Parts & How To Obtain Each One
The way that the drop percentages for different Zombie Parts in Dead Island 2 is still a bit of a mystery, who knows maybe either of the upcoming DLCs will change that. However, the general consensus is that zombies have a chance to drop any of their parts when killed, but for some of these parts, the chance is almost guaranteed if the player destroys a certain body part first or kills them in a specific way.
So, let's go over each of the parts one by one before the first Dead Island 2 DLC comes out and adds more parts. The table below also covers which zombies drop each part and the best methods for obtaining them (if any such methods exist):
Part Appearance | Part Name | What It Drops From | Rarity | How To Obtain & Where To Farm Them |
---|---|---|---|---|
![]() | Infected Flesh | Every single 'Walker' Zombie Variant, Shamblers, & Bursters | Common | No specific method for increasing its drop chance. Can be found lying about in CDC Quarantine Facilities, Hospitals, and Medical Centers. |
![]() | Infected Blood | Runners, Spiky Runners, Shocking Runners, Firefighter Runners, Burning Runners, EAT Courier, Butchers, & Vicious Butchers | Uncommon | No specific method for increasing its drop chance. Can be found lying about in CDC Quarantine Facilities, Hospitals, and Medical Centers. |
![]() | Insect Larvae | Swarm Walkers & Putrefied Slobbers | Rare | Swarm Walkers have a much higher chance of dropping these Larvae than Slobbers do. There's always a Swarm Walker near Micheal's house in Beverly Hills. |
![]() | Leaky Implants | Crushers, Inferno Crushers, Screamers, Voltaic Screamers, & Mutators | Uncommon | No specific method for increasing its drop chance. |
![]() | Oversized Arm Bone | Crushers, Inferno Crushers, & Mutators | Rare | Much easier to farm from Crushers than Mutators. Massively increased chance of dropping when the player Maims or Dismembers one or both of the Crusher's arms before killing it. There are plenty of Crusher Hot Spots, but Venice Beach seems to spawn the most overall. |
![]() | Infected Sinew | Crushers, Inferno Crushers, & Mutators | Superior | No specific method for increasing its drop chance. There are plenty of Crusher Hot Spots, but Venice Beach seems to spawn the most overall. |
![]() | Flammable Fluid | Inferno Crushers & Firestorm Slobbers | Rare | Does not drop from Burning Walkers/Runners, only from Fire-Based Apex Zombies. Some players have reported getting more from breaking/dismembering Inferno Crusher Arms first, but this is unconfirmed. |
![]() | Blast Gland | Bursters | Superior | Bursters are almost always going to drop at least one Blast Gland every time they explode. Just remember to use Drop Kicks, Dash Strikes, etc to launch it before it pops. The Brentwood Sewers are rife with Bursters and Slobbers. |
![]() | Chthonic Ichor | Slobbers & Putrefied Slobbers | Rare | Make sure to Maim or cut off their arms before killing them to increase the chances of getting Chthonic Ichor. The house with all the Caustic puddles and Obi's Phone (needed for his Lost & Found Side Quest) in Beverly Hills almost always has Slobbers spawning at it. |
![]() | Bloated Spleen | Slobbers, Putrefied Slobbers, Firestorm Slobbers, & Bursters | Uncommon | No specific method for increasing its drop chance. The house with all the Caustic puddles and Obi's Phone in Beverly Hills almost always has Slobbers spawning at it. |
![]() | Toxic Gallbladder | Slobbers, Putrefied Slobbers, & Firestorm Slobbers | Superior | No specific method for increasing its drop chance. The house with all the Caustic puddles and Obi's Phone in Beverly Hills almost always has Slobbers spawning at it. |
![]() | Screamer Lungs | Screamers & Voltaic Screamers | Superior | No specific method for increasing its drop chance. There's always a Screamer on the second floor of the house directly across from Francesca's house in Beverly Hills. |
![]() | Infected Spine | Screamers, Voltaic Screamers, & Mutators | Rare | Has a higher chance of dropping if players decapitate or crush this Screamer Variant's head when killing them. There's always a Screamer on the second floor of the house directly across from Francesca's house in Beverly Hills. |
![]() | Electrified Brain | Voltaic Screamers | Rare | Works the same as an Infected Spine in that players want to destroy the head for a higher drop chance. For players that have finished the game, going back to the room where the final boss fight takes place is an easy spot for farming Voltaic Screamers. Not a recommended farming area for co-op play. |
![]() | Regenerating Tissue | Butchers & Vicious Butchers | Superior | No specific method for increasing its drop chance. Butchers are easily found at the Santa Monica Pier, but there are almost always two of them right near the train Exit Point that goes from Hollywood Boulevard to the Metro. |
![]() | Blade Arm | Butchers, Vicious Butchers, & Mutators | Rare | No specific method for increasing its drop chance. Butchers are easily found at the Santa Monica Pier, but there are almost always two of them right near the train Exit Point that goes from Hollywood Boulevard to the Metro. |
![]() | Mutated Heart | Mutators | Superior | The last Journal Log in the Body Art Side Quest (one of the hundreds of Side Quests in this game) mentions killing Mutators before they transform to get their Mutated Hearts, but this is unconfirmed in-game. Going from Hollywood Boulevard back to the Metro using the train Exit Point brings players to a courtyard area with at least one Mutator at all times. |
All Dead Island 2 Maps & Hot Spots Locations
As far as actually farming these Zombie Parts go, it's all about knowing where their Hot Spots are across all of Hell-A, or knowing where one particular one spawns that's right next to a fast travel point. For reference, Hot Spots are simply places where certain Zombie Types are almost guaranteed to spawn. Here's a look at all the Apex Zombie Hot Spots in the game, and the best recommendations for which Apex Zombies (or even basic zombies) to focus on farming on each map.
These recommendations take many different factors into consideration, such as how close the Hot Spot is to a Fast Travel/Exit Point, how quickly players can get to the Spot, and the amount of basic zombies that tend to spawn nearby:
Appearance | Map Name | Zombie Hot Spots | Best Zombie(s) To Farm Here |
---|---|---|---|
![]() | Bel-Air | Screamer & Mutator | Walkers, Runners, Shamblers, & Screamers |
![]() | Halperin Hotel | Crusher (x2), Slobber (x2), Screamer, & Mutator | Crushers & Slobbers |
![]() | Monarch Studios | Slobber, Screamer, & Butcher | Walkers, Runners, Shamblers, & Screamers |
![]() | Beverly Hills | Crusher, Slobber (x2), Burster (x2), Screamer (x2), & Mutator | Burning Walkers, Burning Runners, Slobbers |
![]() | Brentwood Sewers | Slobber (x2), Burster (x3), Screamer, Butcher, & Mutator | Slobbers, Bursters, Walkers, Runners, & Shamblers |
![]() | Venice Beach | Crusher (x2) & Burster | Crushers |
![]() | Ocean Avenue | Crusher, Slobber, Screamer, & Mutator | Screamers & Slobbers |
![]() | Santa Monica | Screamer & Butcher | Butchers |
![]() | Metro | Slobber, Burster (x2), Butcher, & Mutator | Butchers & Mutators |
![]() | Hollywood Boulevard | Screamer & Butcher | Screamers |
