Dead Island 2 has released a new trailer detailing the special abilities of Ryan, one of the playable characters (aka Slayers) set to be featured in the upcoming zombie action-RPG. Like the original game, Dead Island 2 features pre-made characters for players to choose from, all with their own unique quirks, abilities, and personalities. Fans have yet to learn the identities of all the playable characters in Dead Island 2, but a few have been showcased so far.

The Dead Island 2 playable characters that have been properly showcased so far are Jacob, Amy, and Ryan. A fourth playable character named Dani has also been announced, but she has yet to get the spotlight. Recently, developer Dambuster Studios and publisher Deep Silver decided to shine the spotlight on Ryan, revealing what Dead Island 2 players can expect from him in terms of his special abilities.

As revealed in the Meet the Slayers: Ryan video, fans find out that Ryan is from Fresno, California and he used to work as an exotic dancer before the zombie apocalypse ravaged the world. He loves his brother, and he hates exercising for fun, so that gives fans some insight into his personality. Ryan's skills in Dead Island 2 are Retaliation and Seesaw, both of which are detailed further on the Dead Island 2 official website.

Ryan's Retaliation skill makes it so he gets a force boost whenever he uses block or dodge to avoid an attack. Seesaw, meanwhile, makes it so Ryan regenerates some health whenever he manages to knock down a zombie. Ryan has been given the nickname The Tower, and he seems like he's going to be a solid pick for those that plan on barreling through zombie hordes. While not specifically described as a "tank" character, it does sound like Ryan may very well fit that role on paper.

The Dead Island 2 site also reveals more about Ryan's personality. Ryan is described as stubborn, pessimistic, and sarcastic. He's driven to survive in zombie-ridden Los Angeles so that he may fight his way back to his little brother in Fresno. It remains to be seen if Ryan's mission will be a success, and it's likely that fans will simply have to play through the Dead Island 2 story to find out exactly what happens. While it's been nearly a decade of waiting, the Dead Island 2 release date is finally in sight.

Dead Island 2 launches April 28 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
