WARNING: This article contains MAJOR SPOILERS for Dead Island 2.Proceed at your own risk.Dead Island 2 throws players in the midst of a deadly zombie outbreak in the city of Los Angeles, giving players a chance to slaughter countless undead using one of six characters known as Slayers. The story itself is a mission to escape Hell-A along with the few survivors that the player will rescue along the way, including Emma Jaunt, a massive movie star, and Sam B, one of the playable characters from the first game. With the ending of the story, players get to see two plotlines being set up for a possible Dead Island 2 DLC, one being the fight against Lola Konradt and the other being the rescue of Tisha.

Dead Island 2’s story holds many secrets that revealed a lot about the zombie breakout and the man who could have put an end to it all, Dr. Reuben Reed. Ultimately, Reed informs the player that every human has the Autophage encoded into their DNA, and in a matter of time, they will all transform. Following the final fight against a turned Dr. Reed, the Slayers elect to remain in Hell-A to rescue Reed’s daughter, Tisha, and bring her to safety, while still keeping an eye out for Lola and her team of Numen, possibly setting up a Dead Island 2 DLC.

Slayers Remain in Hell-A

With the storyline of Dead Island 2 primarily focused on helping Emma Jaunt and the survivors living in her Bel Air mansion to get out, it was only fitting to see the movie star make an escape. The Slayers help Emma, Sam B, and Patton to reach a helicopter on Hollywood Boulevard, and then they set off in search of Dr. Reed to confront him about starting the whole outbreak. After killing Reed, however, the Slayers decide to stay back in Hell-A to find Tisha and bring her to safety.

The way the Dead Island 2 story ended sets up a DLC in the streets of L.A., most likely using Emma Jaunt’s house as the primary safe house. With a few allies such as Andrea still living in L.A., the Slayers may also be able to take up more side quests that can provide a more concrete backstory for the remaining survivors. In whatever way it is handled, the Dead Island 2 DLC could possibly feature new areas of L.A. that have not been explored and a few new survivors that were not yet discovered.

Saving Tisha

Tisha is the daughter of Dr. Reed in Dead Island 2, and at the end of the story, players find out that she is the true key to making a cure for the Autophage. Unfortunately, just before the final fight against the transformed Reed, Tisha escapes and is not seen again, setting up a daring rescue mission for a DLC. With Tisha being the only hope for humanity against the Autophage, the Slayers will likely need to traverse through uncharted territory to bring her back and get her out of L.A.

Tisha is an all-out survivor and is more than capable of taking care of herself in the streets of Hell-A. However, she is also grief-stricken over the truth being revealed about her father starting the outbreak and experimenting on her before she was even born. With the cure in her blood, Tisha now plays a vital role in the future of the Dead Island franchise, and there may even be the possibility of having her as a playable character in the future. Ultimately, it will be up to the player to find Tisha and get her out of L.A. before the Autophage kills humanity or before Tisha is killed by the zombies.

Fighting Lola Konradt

Another avenue that the Dead Island 2 DLC may set up is the fight between the Slayers and Lola Konradt. At the end of the game, the Slayers communicate with Konradt and her small group of Numen, seemingly setting up either a possible fight or an alliance, with the former being more likely. This is further bolstered by the fact that the Slayers are now on a mission to rescue Tisha and cure the Autophage that gave the Numen their abilities in the first place, something Konradt will undoubtedly attempt to stop.

Lola Konradt, once a tech mogul who invented the Konstant operating system, now a Numen who is comfortably living in the outbreak, is likely going to be the main villain of a potential Dead Island 2 DLC. She wants to lead the Numen, what she considers the next step in human evolution, and in order to do so, she will need to prevent the cure from being made. However, this means defying the Slayers and getting to Tisha before she is rescued and taken out of the city.

Dead Island 2 left a lot of questions unanswered by the end of the game, including what the future holds for the Slayers, whether they fight Konradt and the other Numen, or whether players will see the Slayers join forces with the Numen. All of these questions will need to be addressed in the future, and after a decade-long wait for the second game in the franchise, many fans are hoping that the next installment in the Dead Island series won't be as far away. While one has not yet been confirmed, if the developers follow the path of the first game, fans should expect to see many of these loose ends tied up in a Dead Island 2 DLC, and perhaps a bigger threat on the horizon with the Autophage.

Dead Island 2 is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X\S.
