Dead Island 2 allows Epic Games Store users to unlock achievements in the game, even if they are playing on a different platform. Games nowadays offer all kinds of cross-compatibility with other platforms, though this usually comes in the form of cross-saves, cross-play, or cross-progression, not cross-achievements.

Oddly enough, Dead Island 2 doesn't support cross-saves, cross-progression, or cross-play at launch. This means that Dead Island 2 players on PlayStation have to play with other PlayStation gamers, Xbox gamers have to play with those on Xbox, and those on PC have to play with others on PC. Since Dead Island 2 is an Epic Games Store exclusive, PC gamers are limited to playing with those that use the Epic Games Store.

While it will definitely be disappointing to some fans that Dead Island 2 doesn't offer cross-saves or cross-progression, it does at least offer cross-achievements, for what it's worth. This was pointed out by Reddit user PCMachinima, who claims that they were playing Dead Island 2 on PS5, yet still earning achievements in the Epic Games Store version of the game. It seems their PlayStation account is tied to their Epic Games Store account, which could explain why the Dead Island 2 achievements are unlocking as they earn trophies on PlayStation.

Dead Island 2's achievements and trophies mostly revolve around completing quests and killing zombies, so it's fairly easy to unlock them all. It will be a little time-consuming for players to complete all the story quests and side quests in Dead Island 2, but that alone will help them unlock a decent chunk of achievements in the game. From there, it's just a matter of completing challenges and completing the other miscellaneous tasks that the Dead Island 2 achievement list demands.

Hopefully Dead Island 2 offers full-blown cross-saves and cross-play at some point. These features could go a long way in keeping fans interested in the game, but no plans to incorporate them have been announced at the time of this writing. However, updates are a guarantee for the game in the months ahead, as Dead Island 2 will have paid expansions that add new content as well as free updates that aim to fix its bugs and address other issues plaguing the zombie game. Specifics will have to wait until the updates are ready to be deployed, though.

Dead Island 2 is out now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
