Soon after Dead Island 2 players start their adventures, they will come across various doors and mirrors, but despite the frequency of these items, there's an aspect of them that fans aren't happy with. Because Dambuster Studios only just released Dead Island 2 on April 21, there may be some things that get changed through updates, and one may be based on this fan feedback.

Dead Island 2 sold over 1 million copies for its launch weekend, potentially leading to a renaissance for the series and other future zombie games. Fans of the Dead Island series have been waiting for the release of Dead Island 2 for several years, but some are still waiting for a slight change to improve the quality of their gameplay. Drawing inspiration from features that already exist like in other zombie games like Dead Rising 4, State of Decay 2, and even the prequel to Dead Island 2, some fans have an idea on how to make doors and mirrors better.

Reddit user Woodland91 has gained over 100 upvotes on a text post imploring Dambuster Studios to fix a visible Dead Island 2 problem where players aren't able to close the door behind them as they could in the original game. Beyond the doors, another Reddit user suggested that Dambuster Studios makes mirrors reflect the Dead Island 2 characters and environment around them rather than a warped perspective of the room that excludes the player. The way things currently are, Dead Island 2 players aren't able to protect themselves by holding up in a room after closing the doors behind them, and some have attempted to walk through mirrors because of their strange appearance.

There are multiple zombie games that have been released in which players can close doors in order to put a barrier between them and the undead such as Days Gone, State of Decay 2, and even the original Dead Island.Dambuster Studios' Dead Island 2 currently fails to meet this standard. Though Dead Island 2 won't show players their character in a mirror's reflection, it isn't the only zombie game to omit this feature, as Dying Light shared the same problem, and State of Decay and DayZ have chosen to blur these objects. Mirrors are rarely an important aspect of zombie games that mostly focus on survival, but Dead Rising fans could check their unique outfits out in various mirrors, and recent Resident Evil titles are properly reflective as well.

Because the first Dead Island had some bugs associated with the doors in the game, Dambuster Studios may be trying to avoid the same growing pains by optimizing door mechanics before allowing players to not just open them, but close them as well. As some Dead Island 2 updates may be expected in the future to iron out launch bugs that may have been discovered by other players, fans may see a change to doors and mirrors, but it remains unclear how long that would take.

Dead Island 2 is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
