Dead Island 2 will see players take on the role of a Slayer surviving in Hell-A against the zombie apocalypse, with the game featuring a total of six playable characters. Two remain a mystery, while others have been shown off to some degree, but the latest reveal dives into the background stories of Jacob, Amy, Ryan, and Dani.

Dead Island 2's release date is currently slated for April 28, and developer Dambuster Studios has been showing more and more of the game in recent weeks. For example, Dambuster Studios recently discussed the game's weapon durability system, delved into Ryan's abilities, and more. But beyond the story at large is the story in each character, with the recent overview giving fans a look at four of the six Slayers.

Jacob, the character seen on Dead Island 2's cover art, is a "Brixton boy and former banker" who moved to LA to become a stuntman, following his mother's death. He is apparently calm and collected in the face of death, but he also has an appreciation for classic literature. Those who play Jacob can expect him to quote Shakespeare while fighting zombies. Meanwhile, Amy is an LA native and a former Paralympian. She is perhaps the most physically fit of the slayers, as her years of training have left her with good reflexes, focus, and determination. She apparently strives to bring some positivity to the doom and gloom of the zombie apocalypse.

Then, Dani is a rockabilly daughter who has lived "across the Pond" and Boston before relocating to Los Angeles. She's described as a fixture of the local punk and alternative scenes, while also being a member of the roller derby team. Ryan is described roughly as a tank in Dead Island 2, but it may be that Dani isn't far behind. Ryan is a former exotic dancer, one with a close relationship with his younger brother who he has practically raised. His goal throughout Dead Island 2 appears to be to get back to his brother, and despite this, he seems to take the zombie apocalypse in stride. He's been a lifelong pessimist about the fate of the world, after all.

While these four slayers in Dead Island 2 are no doubt interesting, the air of mystery around the final two is perhaps the most intriguing. It's uncertain when fans will learn more about them or if they'll even do so before launch. After all, each of the aforementioned characters still has a lot to show, as there's plenty that remains unsaid.

Dead Island 2 launches April 28 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
