Highlights

  • Patch 7.7.0 PTB for Dead by Daylight brings major changes, not just to perks and abilities but also to in-game store and killer reworks.
  • Public test builds allow player feedback to shape patches before official release, making PTB a vital asset for Dead by Daylight development.
  • Patch 7.7.0 addresses gameplay issues like fake unhooks and map reworks, along with reworking perks and add-ons for a more balanced experience.

The latest public test build for Dead by Daylight is an ambitious one, bringing a set of dramatic changes to the game. Like most of Dead by Daylight's test builds, perks and abilities are being tweaked in order to attempt to make the game much more balanced. However, in this specific case, one of the major aspects of the PTB isn't related to trials at all. The 7.7.0 patch has a good chance of going down as one of the more notable patches in the game's recent history thanks to a few major changes it makes to Dead by Daylight.

Regardless of whether a new chapter releases in Dead by Daylight, patches traditionally get put on the public test build before going live. The advantage of this is obvious, since it gives new and tweaked mechanics some time to collect player feedback before being properly released into the game. At times, this has led to some changes being tweaked, or even scrapped entirely before the patch goes live due to unanticipated reactions or effects. This has made the PTB into a major asset for Dead by Daylight, and Patch 7.7.0 testing big changes is proof of that.

Dead by Daylight has featured some great crossovers in the game, but an old collaboration should be brought back into the spotlight.

Dead by Daylight's Shop is Getting a Makeover

A rework of the in-game store will change the way players unlock new cosmetics in Dead by Daylight. Patch 7.7.0 is giving the store a major overhaul that aimts to improve the in-game shopping experience. New features include:

  • Pages that show entire cosmetic collections together
  • The ability to preview different cosmetics together before buying
  • Preview pages to show off perks, powers, and Moris
  • Free weekly rewards redeemable from the shop
  • Shrine of Secrets moved from the shop to the lobby

This revamped shop should make it easier to find specific items and DLC, and hopefully the new format will prove a major improvement.

The Twins Are Finally Getting Their Long-Awaited Rework in Dead by Daylight's New Patch

The Twins have always been one of Dead by Daylight's least-played killers due to their complexity. However, Dead by Daylight's Twins are getting a major rework in Patch 7.7.0, with some highlights being:

  • Victor latches onto downed Survivors rather than injured ones
  • Charlotte gets Haste When Victor latches onto a Survivor
  • Victor no longer provides Killer Instinct when latched
  • Victor can be recalled at any time
  • General cooldown reductions

These changes are designed to make The Twins' notoriously complicated playstyle easier to manage and more efficient in trials. It sounds promising, but the PTB will have the final say on its true effectiveness.

Patch 7.7.0 Is Addressing Several Issues in Dead by Daylight

A few specific aspects of gameplay are being revisited to improve the health of the game overall. Maliciously faking unhooks is a violation of how Survivors should play Dead by Daylight, and in Patch 7.7.0, unhooking can no longer be canceled to prevent this behavior. In addition, the Haddonfield map is being reworked again, this time to rework the map design to try to remove dead zones. The perks Adrenaline, Decisive Strike, and Ultimate Weapon have all also received reworks. Most notably, Decisive Strike now comes with a stabbing animation and a longer stun. These new perks may find new places in Dead by Daylight's metagame post-PTB.

In addition to all of these changes, there are several other minor details being changes, mostly in the form of bugfixes. However, some add-ons for The Blight in Dead by Daylight as well as the aforementioned Twins have also received a touch-up, either adjusting their numbers or completely changing their effects. Of course, there's no guarantee that everything from the PTB will make it to the game proper. Even so, the changes made for Patch 7.7.0. should lead to one of Dead by Daylight's most interesting PTB periods to date.
