A crossover with the Koji Suzuki novel Ringu and its film adaptation was previously revealed in December for Dead by Daylight. Back then, it was announced that the Ringu chapter and its associated killer character Sadako would launch with a release window of March 2022.

The latest killer character to be introduced, the Artist, was an original character designed for Dead by Daylight. Since her launch, news about Ringu has been relatively silent while Dead by Daylight has compensated players with Bloodpoints, reworked important gameplay systems, and offered patch notes with favorable feature changes. Now, a new reveal trailer has rebranded Dead by Daylight's latest chapter and announced when players can expect it.

Killer character Sadako and survivor character Yoichi Asakawa feature in Dead by Daylight's reveal trailer, which also unveils that the upcoming chapter has been retitled Sadako Rising. Sadako was teased before in the chapter's early announcement, but the addition of a survivor character is a welcome surprise. It seems as if particular details may have been added or revised since its first announcement, and is now prepared to release as a full DLC package, just without a new map. Further, it is revealed in the trailer that Sadako Rising will officially release on March 8.

Instead, it looks like map-wide props will be added to suit her mechanics, similar to Nemesis' vaccination chests or the contraptions used to detach Amanda Young's reverse bear traps. Based on footage in the trailer, the Onryo will be able to physically manifest through television monitors that are likely placed throughout the map. Sadako is established to look like another stealth-oriented killer in Dead by Daylight, which would also fit her character with creepy animations and the ability to instantly appear from nearby monitors.

Ringu is perhaps a franchise property that fans expected the least for a new Dead by Daylight chapter, particularly because there were rumored leaks of The Conjuring and other influential horror franchises making their way into the game at some point soon as well. Regardless, fans are excited about its next adapted horror property.

The trailer confirms that the chapter's original release window of March has not been changed, so fans do not have to wait long before the popular horror franchise finally arrives in Dead by Daylight. However, what the trailer does not state is that certain players have the opportunity to check out its associated characters much earlier. The chapter's Public Test Build server is now live, which means Sadako and Asakawa, along with their perks and abilities, are currently playable for players to experiment with early.

Dead by Daylight is available for Mobile, PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Stadia, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
