The developer of the asymmetrical multiplayer horror game Dead by Daylight released a new teaser for the game’s next update, which hinted at the game's next killer. And while the short trailer leaves viewers with more questions than answers, fans don't have long to wait before they find out which new killer is joining Dead by Daylight.Developed by Canadian studio Behavior Interactive, Dead by Daylight launched in 2016 and sees a team of four player-controlled Survivors cooperating to escape the player controlling a Killer. The game features several original characters as well as popular heroes and villains from franchises like Resident Evil, Left for Dead, Silent Hill, The Evil Dead, The Ring, and many more. Despite only middling scores on Metacritic, Dead by Daylight enjoys a relatively active community thanks in large part to its regular updates.RELATED: Maurice is Returning to Dead by DaylightThe multiplayer horror game recently released a new teaser on Twitter, offering some cryptic clues as to who or what Dead by Daylight's next killer might be. The tweet consists of a 30-second video with the caption “Cutting edge innovation.” The teaser trailer opens on a pile of papers topped with a sketch of a skull with electrical cables coming out of it. The camera then pans across a workbench strewn with tools as the sound of a buzz saw plays in the background.

Finally, the camera settles on a human skull modified in the way shown in the sketch. A red light starts glowing from its mouth as the strange device powers on and makes a noise halfway between a roar and an engine starting up. The trailer then cuts to a screen revealing that Dead by Daylight's next expansion is called “Tools of Torment,” but that fans will need to wait until February 15 before developers reveal any more information about the game's next Killer.

The latest Dead by Daylight teaser seems to have had the desired effect, as it set off a significant amount of hype and speculation in the Twitter replies. Several fans seemed excited by the prospect of a robot killer. The top replies suggested that the titular killer AI from The Terminator might be on its way to Dead by Daylight.

However, as at least one Twitter user seems to have noticed, the cybernetic skull looks a lot like one of the hovering Servitors from the Warhammer 40K franchise. Sacrificing Survivors to Dead by Daylight’s malevolent Entity might not be on brand for the Adeptus Mechanicus, but it's not as if 40K doesn't have plenty of Chaos Tech Priests running around too. Either way, fans don’t have to wait too long before Behavior Interactive reveals more about Dead by Daylight’s new content.

Dead by Daylight is currently available for Nintendo Switch, PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
