Since it was first released in 2016, Dead by Daylight has brought an innovative spin to the video game horror genre. In this 4v1 competitive multiplayer, players will face off against a roster of killers that range from new enemies to licensed horror icons from past movies and video games. Developer Behaviour Interactive went the extra mile this year when it introduced the new Dead By Daylight Resident Evil chapter. This year the game will be celebrating its fifth anniversary and has made a big splash with the new killer from Resident Evil: Nemesis.

Nemesis first appeared in Resident Evil 3: Nemesis and would be a returning character in a few other games in the series. As a living and breathing bio-weapon, he has a series of abilities to draw from that make tracking down and tricking the survivors a walk in the park. Nemesis is also assisted by the zombies that walk the map whenever he is the killer, providing an extra obstacle for the survivor to avoid. These zombies can be stopped with a flashlight and forced to respawn with a pallet, otherwise, Nemesis can use them to grow more powerful.

Nemesis's Abilities in Dead by Daylight

Nemesis' base attacks are done by his fists, with all the mutant strength behind them. Like in the Resident Evil universe, Nemesis is inflicted with the T-Virus, which can in turn be passed on to the survivors through the zombies on the map. Once the survivor has a contaminated status, their strength will be hindered. Nemesis' special, a tentacle that shoots forward from his arm, can also inflict the contaminated status effect on survivors. As the killer becomes more mutated, his tentacles become stronger and are able to reach further as well.

Nemesis' perks in Dead by Daylight are focused on tracking the survivors, laying a coordinated generator trap, and blinding the survivors to his terror radius. The parasite working as his brain is smart enough to be able to accomplish these feats. Nemesis also has the unique ability to be able to attack the zombies with his tentacles, which can help him further his mutation stage and increase his strength and range. However, seeing that there are only ever two zombies on the map, the Nemesis player has to decide whether to track down the zombies for extra power and risk letting the survivors get a head start.

The Fans' Reception to Nemesis in Dead by Daylight

Seeing as both Resident Evil and Dead by Daylight are horror games, there is some crossover in the audience. According to the reviews on Steam, some players think the killer is overpowered, with others loving his mid-range abilities. The innovative choice to add zombie NPCs to the game is also something that has caught fan attention, as it's the first time Dead by Daylight has tried anything like it. It's truly surprising to some that the game has been going for five years and is still finding ways to improve on its formula.

While Dead by Daylight DLC has been hit-or-miss for some in the past, the Resident Evil DLC seems to have found a warm welcome among fans. Whether it be the classic villain Nemesis stomping across the map, or Chris Redfield getting to live after his less than favorable finale, the most recent chapter for Dead by Daylight is a fun experience for fans of both genres. The new mechanics for the game, such as NPCs, also gives players who had previously given up on the game a reason to come back.
