Highlights

  • Dead by Daylight's formula of consistent updates and new content has been successful in keeping fans engaged and satisfied for years.
  • The mobile version of Dead by Daylight is apparently experimenting with a 2v8 mode, which could introduce a refreshing dynamic to the gameplay.
  • The core game of Dead by Daylight may seem inferior without its own 2v8 mode, as it offers the potential for unique killer builds and larger matches with more survivors.

Dead by Daylight constantly adds new updates and Chapters with exciting original and licensed content, but this is also the same formula that it has doled out for years. There’s nothing particularly wrong with that since fans have been content to stick by Behaviour and help usher in new DLCs for the past handful of years, and it’s true that Behaviour is hitting the right notes with a lot of its latest decisions. Therefore, it likely never has to change its formula drastically and Dead by Daylight will continue onward successfully, granted there will always be fans who have gripes with the ongoing meta or baffling patches.

That’s not to say Behaviour has never made attempts at introducing new features to the core game, though it’s true that the 1v4 nature of Dead by Daylight may grow stale with some players. Not branching out too far is also a fine idea, but Dead by Daylight’s mobile title seems to have taken the opportunity to get experimental with its loop in a way that fans are excited about, at least in concept. Dead by Daylight’s main game is largely preferred to the mobile version, but at the moment it might pale in comparison to it thanks to a 2v8 mode supposedly coming to the mobile game.

Dead by Daylight Mobile Seemingly Receiving a 2v8 Mode

Dead by Daylight’s Core Game May Always Seem Inferior without Its Own 2v8

There doesn’t seem to be any official confirmation right now aside from a leaked illustrative image that could be key art of the mode in question. But if rumors are true, with fans already treating it like it’s guaranteed to arrive, then it appears as though Dead by Daylight’s mobile version is getting a 2v8 mode.

This would mean that two killers are running around and pursuing eight survivors within a match, which could profoundly shift the dynamic of the cat-and-mouse gameplay loop that Dead by Daylight is famous for. There is no such news about Dead by Daylight’s core game receiving this at any point as it likely would’ve been an announcement plastered all over the latest roadmap for fans to look forward to, and as a result it’s disappointing that the mode seems to be exclusive to mobile.

On paper, such a change might mean the gameplay loop is simply expanded to incorporate more people in a single match, but having two distinctly different killer characters and eight potentially different survivor perk loadouts in the core game could be significantly refreshing. If for no other reason, it would be exciting to be hunted by two different killers and see how one would fare in a chase.

How Dead by Daylight’s Core Game Could Implement 2v8

It would be fascinating to see how unique Dead by Daylight killer builds could synergize and work together to take down eight survivors. There would likely need to be more generators since survivors could easily swarm individual ones and complete them quickly due to the sheer number of survivors in any given match otherwise, but it’s also true that two killers could potentially lock down three-gens much easier as well. If killers received comms functionality in their co-op gameplay that would also be emergent since the killer would actually be able to cooperate and strategize with someone else and not be left to their lonesome.

Eight survivors sounds like a ton of people crouching, sprinting, ducking into lockers, and breaking or booning totems, meaning that the entire gameplay loop would need to be reevaluated in some way, and that’s the sort of transcendental shift longtime players are probably seeking from Dead by Daylight now. That said, even if this 2v8 mode does come to the mobile game, that doesn’t mean it can or will ever come to the core game.
