Dead by Daylight has shared some good news with fans of the Texas Chain Saw Massacre franchise. With Dead by Daylight losing the Stranger Things license two years ago, many fans were afraid of the same situation happening once again, this time with iconic villain Leatherface.

In recent weeks, rumors have been circulating that Leatherface will be leaving Dead by Daylight. These rumors began upon several players finding alternate names for his killer perks on the Public Test Build (PTB), suggesting that they would be renamed in the future and made available to all players as result of the Leatherface DLC being removed. This previously happened with the Demogorgon when Dead by Daylight were unable to renew the Stranger Things license with Netflix, so fans recognized the tell-tale signs immediately. It had also recently been revealed that a Texas Chain Saw Massacre Asymmetrical Game is in the works, so many fans also anticipated Leatherface might be removed from Dead by Daylight in order to be the face of his own asymmetrical game.

In a statement to Game ZXC, Behaviour Interactive dispelled all rumors concerning Leatherface's future within the game, stating, "I am glad to share with you that The Cannibal is indeed staying a part of the Dead by Daylight Experience." New players will continue to be able to learn how to play as Leatherface in Dead by Daylight.

Leatherface is simultaneously one of the most and least popular killers within the game, but fans overall seem to be quite happy that he will not be leaving the game anytime soon. Though the Leatherface play style has become synonymous with downing a survivor and camping them to death for many, so much so that it is referenced in Dead by Daylight's tweet, many players find the actual chase gameplay against him to be some of the most enjoyable in the entire game. Though the current Dead by Daylight meta has serious problems, these are more tied to perks and maps than to individual killers, Nurse excluded.

Regardless of how individual players may feel about a killer, losing any of them sets a dangerous precedent when it comes to licensing, and may lead to question marks concerning the acquisition of future licenses down the road. Thus, even for those who hate him, Leatherface staying, even if not as one of the strongest killers in Dead by Daylight, is what is most healthy for the game in the long-term.

Dead by Daylight is currently available for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
