With each Rift comes a fresh installment in the Archives, offering further insight into many aspects of Dead by Daylight's universe. The developers intentionally keep some facts about the world under wraps, but reading deep into characters' backstories, the Archives, and developers' discussions reveal hidden secrets in Dead by Daylight's lore that even the most devoted fans might not notice at first.

8 There Is A Cult That Knows About The Entity

While the Fog, the Entity, and Dead by Daylight's Trials are a secret to most humans outside of its universe, there is canonically a cult that knows of the Entity's existence.

This group is known as the Imperrati, and two Survivors (Elodie and Felix) have parents who are members. The group is secretive and conducts many of their operations on a private island, where Elodie and Felix met The Pariahs, a group of teenagers who have family in the Imperrati.

7 The Huntress' Silver Ring

Observant fans might notice that Anna, also known as The Huntress, wears a shiny silver ring on the middle finger of her left hand. The developers stated that The Huntress wears this silver ring due to her love for collecting shiny things.

Anna has many childlike qualities since she lost her mother at a young age and learned to fend for herself. In fact, Anna watched her mother die a horrible death at the hands of an elk, something some fans may not know about her. As The Huntress has canonically killed swathes of soldiers and other humans according to the Archives, it is likely that the ring belonged to one of her victims.

6 Dwight Drugged His Boss

Fans may know Dwight as one of the most innocent Survivors, but he has done some questionable things. When Dwight started his new job, his boss continually insulted him. He then heard stories of his boss being cruel to his coworkers and others and decided to take matters into his own hands.

Dwight talked to the employee who he replaced, and the old employee gave him a laughing drug to give to the boss. After learning that the drug wasn't harmful, Dwight agreed to slip it into his boss's coffee. This encounter is one shocking thing many fans might not know about Dead by Daylight's Survivors.

5 The Entity Originally Wanted The Spirit's Father

Survivors and Killers don't randomly end up in the Entity's Fog realm; the Entity carefully selects them based on their emotional potential. The Entity almost picked The Spirit's father but selected The Spirit to enter the Fog instead after noticing her immense potential. She gained this potential from all her suffering.

Characters like The Spirit have unique backstories that add further depth to the game's overarching lore; Dead by Daylight's variety of intriguing original killers is one of its greatest strengths.

4 The Trapper and Wraith Fought The Entity

The Wraith lived a relatively normal life before the Entity took him into the Fog, while The Trapper was responsible for a mass murder at his father's direction. Both of them were responsible for murder, but neither of them had a desire to kill for the sake of killing.

Though their stories differed, both The Trapper and The Wraith fought The Entity in hopes of avoiding being taken into the Fog. Unlike Survivors, who can use skills to outlast Killers, no invididual has ever beaten the Entity. Both of them ended up horribly disfigured as a result, left to kill forever in Dead by Daylight's never-ending Trials.

3 Survivors Rest At The Campfire Between Trials

Many Dead by Daylight players have likely spotted Survivors sitting around the campfire on the menu screen. Observant players might even notice that those Survivors are their own playable Survivors, wearing the cosmetics they dressed them in.

This is more than just a neat addition to the menu screen, though; it plays directly into the lore of the game. Between each Trial, whether Survivors live or die, they return to the campfire to rest with other Survivors before ending up in their next Trial at the hands of a new big bad.

2 The Trickster Records His Victims' Screams

The Trickster is a K-pop star, but his music has a sinister twist: he records his victims' screams and mixes them into his music. Behavior referenced this quirk in his official trailer, as The Trickster pulls out an MP3 player and plays an upbeat track with a Survivor's screams on it.

While The Trickster has a more human appearance than many of Dead by Daylight's Killers, details like this make him all the more horrifying. In fact, because he takes advantage of his stardom to kill others, many believe he is one of the scariest Killers in the game.

1 The Hatch Has A Connection To A Character

Escaping through the Hatch is one feature in Dead by Daylight that beginners might not even know they can take advantage of, but it has rich lore surrounding it.

In a stream, Behavior stated that the Hatch has a deep connection to a Dead by Daylight character, but refused to specify which one. Many fans imagine that the connection is with Vigo, since some item descriptions suggest that he does not explictly follow the Entity's rules, and the Entity created the Exit Gates. Some even speculate that Vigo created the hatch, but developers have not confirmed this.
