Highlights

  • Much of Dead by Daylight's success can be attributed to its collaborations with established IPs like Resident Evil, making future video game crossovers a promising idea.
  • Potential collaborations with Remedy Entertainment's Alan Wake 2, Dead Space, and Outlast could introduce new killers, survivors, maps, and gameplay mechanics.
  • The Evil Within franchise is a long shot for collaboration, but it would be a great opportunity to bring attention back to the series and potentially pave the way for a new game.

For years, Dead by Daylight has managed to maintain its relevancy, and a large part of its continued success can likely be attributed to its collaborations. Similar to other live service titles such as Fortnite, exciting team-ups with established IPs has arguably been just as important as consistent post-launch updates. Recently, Dead by Daylight’s collaboration with Alien has gotten fans talking about a partnership with Predator, as when one of these creatures appears, the other often follows. However, video game crossovers should also be considered for future Chapters.

Obviously, there is plenty of untapped potential in the world of TV and film when it comes to collaborations. The aforementioned Predator makes perfect sense, as does content based on Stephen King stories like It. Still, the success of the Silent Hill and Resident Evil packs will hopefully mean that Behaviour Interactive has more video game collabs in the works. While there are many options to consider, a few stand out as being particularly good fits for the Dead by Daylight formula.

Dead by Daylight Should Crossover With Some of Gaming’s Best Horror Franchises

One of the most timely collaborations Dead by Daylight could look into is a partnership with Remedy Entertainment. Alan Wake 2 is set to be a proper survival horror game, meaning that it will likely feature at least one enemy that would work well as a killer. Obviously, the real star of the DLC pack would be the titular writer, as Alan Wake himself would make a top-notch survivor. One of his abilities could see him buffing the team’s flashlights, leaning into a unique mechanic from the original Alan Wake. Additionally, new protagonist Saga Anderson could be a special skin for Alan that adds some unique dialogue.

Slightly less timely, but still fairly relevant since the latest entry in the series released earlier this year, is Dead Space. Obviously, series protagonist Isaac Clarke would be the only valid choice for a survivor. For his perks, Behaviour could somehow work his skills as an engineer into the mix, giving him buffs to generator repairs. Working his iconic stomp into the mix could be funny, too, with Isaac potentially having special crates that look like the ones aboard the USG Ishimura to stomp for some unique loot. Speaking of the USG Ishimura, it would make a terrific map, especially if a Necromorph killer were patrolling it. As for which Necromorph could fit this role, the Hunter would stand out due to its regeneration.

Another option to consider would be Outlast. While Outlast has expanded into the multiplayer genre itself with The Outlast Trials, it would still be interesting to see what a collaboration could entail. Perhaps a killer - whether it be Father Loutermilch or Richard Trager - could force all the survivors into a first-person perspective. This could throw off even experienced players who think they know the game’s maps well, and it could be a gateway to a proper first-person mode down the line.

One final option is a bit unlikely given how the series is essentially dormant. However, with its main inspiration Resident Evil getting so much love through two separate Chapters, it would be nice to see The Evil Within franchise get some time to shine. A collaboration could even get the ball rolling on a new game, something fans have been holding out hope for. There are several options for killers, such as the ghostly Anima and the disturbing artist Stefano, though the Keeper is likely the most iconic figure. For a survivor, the no-brainer option of Sebastian Castellanos would be the right call.

There is a bright future ahead for Dead by Daylight, as even high profile actors like Nicolas Cage are getting involved with the game. Hopefully, the continued success of the title will result in more partnerships, especially with other video games. From maps like the USG Ishimura to terrifying killers like Anima, there is so much great content that can come from Behaviour Interactive working with other developers.

Dead by Daylight is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
