Highlights

  • Dead by Daylight has successfully expanded through crossovers with famous horror IPs, making it a premier horror game on the market.
  • While the game has missed the opportunity to bring in Dead Space during the remake's release, there is still hope for a future crossover.
  • The return of Dead Space has opened up another window for a potential collaboration with Dead by Daylight, which could have a great impact if timed correctly.

Dead by Daylight missed an excellent opportunity to grab one major IP, but hope for its inclusion may not have died out yet. The degree to which Dead by Daylight has managed to expand itself with so many famous horror IPs is impressive, to say the least. The recent addition of Ripley and the Xenomorph from Alien shows that the game isn't slowing down at all in that department. Even so, there's one instance where the game failed to strike while the iron was hot for one property. However, there's still hope to grab it again in the future.

It's safe to say that Dead by Daylight's many crossovers are a major draw for the game, especially for horror fans. From classic slashers like Michael Myers to modern icons like Albert Wesker, Dead by Daylight has established itself as one of the premier horror games on the market. Of course, the game doesn't rely solely on its crossovers, with a selection is frightening killers of the developers' own creation making up the majority of the roster. The game has managed to thrive in the notoriously difficult asymmetrical horror genre and keeps expanding every year. At this point, Dead by Daylight is a horror IP powerhouse.

Dead by Daylight Missed the Perfect Opportunity to Bring in Dead Space

In one of 2023's success stories, Dead Space's recent remake brought the series back to prominence after a decade of dormancy. The return of Isaac Clarke and his fight against the Necromorphs made a few differences when compared to the original, but still managed to keep its terrifying atmosphere intact. After the game's warm reception, anticipation for the next game in the series to be remade is high. The return of Dead Space also stirs the idea of how the series could cross over into Dead by Daylight. While it would be an excellent addition, its best time to debut may have passed.

There's little reason for one to doubt that Dead Space crossing over into Dead by Daylight would be an excellent opportunity. Isaac's ever-present suit and helmet would give him a unique niche among survivors, and virtually any Necromorph could make for a terrifying killer. However, the best time for a Dead Space crossover to happen would have been near the remake's release. At that time, the hype for Dead Space would have been at a high, and the timing would have been optimal for both games. While Dead Space is still popular, announcing a crossover now would not have the same impact.

The time isn't up for Dead Space to join Dead by Daylight, though. As long as Dead Space 2 gets the remake it deserves, that will open up another window where the series will have plenty of attention. As a result, it would be another opportunity for an announced collaboration with Dead by Daylight to have the greatest effect possible. The introduction of RIdley, Xenomorph, Gabriel, and Singularity has already shown that sci-fi horror has a place in Dead by Daylight, so there are no worries there. If the Dead Space series continues, there will be little reason for it not to eventually find itself in Dead by Daylight.

The return of Dead Space is great for the horror genre, and Dead by Daylight can benefit greatly from it. Dead Space is an obvious crossover option for Dead by Daylight, bringing not only a popular horror IP but an effectively scary and exciting one to boot. Isaac and the Necromorphs may have gone a long time without appearing in any games, but both would be a perfect fit into Dead by Daylight's realms. Even though Dead by Daylight missed an amazing opportunity to add Dead Space, another chance could come up not too long from now.

Dead by Daylight is available now for mobile devices, Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
