Behaviour Interactive has announced that it's developing a comic book prequel story for Dead by Daylight. Telling stories about online multiplayer games can be challenging, leaving companies to resort to cross-media partnerships. Dead by Daylight has found ways to tell stories in-game through its chapters, but its horror universe is ripe for other opportunities. It's only natural that Behaviour is looking at comic books as the next opportunity for telling Dead by Daylight tales.By no means is Behaviour opposed to experimenting with Dead by Daylight, of course. While Dead by Daylight is well known for various crossovers it brings into the game, it's also sought out opportunities to crossover elsewhere. For example, Dead by Daylight characters have made appearances in games including Deathgarden, For Honor, Move or Die, and most recently PUBG: Battlegrounds. If there's an opportunity for Dead by Daylight somewhere, Behaviour is clearly open to pursuing it.RELATED: Dead by Daylight Teases Forged in Fog Update for November 2022The next Dead by Daylight partnership will be with comic company Titan Comics. Titan will be publishing a series of Dead by Daylight comics to serve as a prequel to the events of Dead by Daylight. The series will be written by Harvey Award winner Nadia Shammas with art from Dillon Snook. Issue #1 of the series, straightforwardly named Dead by Daylight Issue #1, is planned to arrive in March 2023. More specific release information will be shared closer to release.

As for more specific information regarding the story, Behaviour Interactive confirmed that it will introduce a closer look at Dead by Daylight Killer The Legion. As Dead by Daylight players are likely already familiar with, The Legion includes a group of characters named Frank, Julie, Susie, and Joey, with Frank serving as a charismatic sociopath pushing his "friends" to darker and more malevolent actions. The new comic will delve into the finer details of the group's spiral into evil.

It's easy to imagine how this initial Dead by Daylight comic could grow into a full series made up of stories focusing on individual Killers or Survivors. The Legion is a great starting story to help comic readers dip their toes into the horrors of the Dead by Daylight universe. Future stories will be able to build on that, offering horror stories of a more immediate disturbing nature.

Helping explain the decision to bring Dead by Daylight to comic books, Behaviour head of partnerships Mathieu Côté explains that comic books hold a "special place in my heart as with many people on the team." He goes on to say that seeing Dead by Daylight characters "coming to life" in comic book pages is particularly exciting to the development team and hopefully fans will be just as excited overall.

Dead by Daylight is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and mobile devices.
