For many in the horror community, especially those who stream content, Dead by Daylight is an ongoing source of gaming entertainment. With the Sadako Rising Ringu DLC going live recently, the blend of online co-op survival with movie villains and monsters is still proving to be a winning formula with a dedicated fan base. It's so popular that a team is working to bring it to the realm of board games. With the Kickstarter campaign now live, the page has already managed to smash its intended goal.

According to the Kickstarter page, the developers of the board game version of Dead by Daylight, known as Level 99 Games, had been hoping to make $250,000 to fund the project. With 22 days to go and the counter still rising, the pledge is currently at $337,556 at the time of writing, which means it's managed to go above the initial amount by almost $100,000. The developer behind the adaptation is a team hailing from New Mexico and is responsible for creating a series of board games, such as BattleCON, Millennium Blades, Exceed Fighting System, and more.

Just like the video game source material, players will get to take on the role of a survivor or the killer. Using "movement cards," players will need to explore the map to seek out generators while avoiding the killer. Currently, there are seven survivor characters and six killer characters. At the moment, it doesn't look like this version will have any of the licensed horror movie villains. It's hoped that the Dead by Daylight board game will be out this October, possibly as a Halloween release.

There are many tabletop and board game adaptations of video games, such as Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, Fallout, and even Disco Elysium, showing that a real-world equivalent of some big-name digital titles is something fans are keen on. A post on Level 99 Games' Kickstarter page says that the project is almost complete and is currently undergoing approval for the "factory prototype," with a 100-day production process beginning after that. Additionally, gameplay videos will be inbound soon.

As one of the best horror games to play online, Dead by Daylight is enjoyed by millions all year round, not just on Halloween. Its stealth-based teamplay mechanics and tie-ins with popular movie franchises make it an ideal game to stream on places like Twitch. It will be interesting to see whether anyone decides to broadcast the board game adaptation as well once that's released.

Dead By Daylight is available for Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
