With his bone-carved mask adorning the promotional material of the game, The Trapper is Dead by Daylight’s most iconic Killer. Most people’s first introduction to the mechanics of the game, The Trapper can be an extremely effective foe when facing less experienced Survivors. Nevertheless, with the right build, The Trapper can create tense situations against Survivors of all skill levels.

Dead By Daylight: Best Builds For The Wraith (2024)

Easy to learn and difficult to master, The Wraith in Dead by Daylight can use these powerful perks to complement his power.

With the two builds explored in detail in this guide, Trapper players with varying levels of access to other DLC perks can become a force to be reckoned with in Dead by Daylight.

Updated on July 3rd, 2024, by Lewis Smyth: This updated guide for The Trapper features the strongest teachable and non-teachable perks for the best builds, as well as a new best add-ons guide for beginners, all adjusted to suit the Dead by Daylight meta in 2024.

The Trapper: Best Beginner Build (2024)

Though his base perks can be useful in certain scenarios, the most effective perks for The Trapper are locked behind a paywall. Nevertheless, plenty of value can be gained from using Agitation to hook Survivors in trapped areas, while Sloppy Butcher creates slowdown, Whispers reveals where you should start trapping, and Hex: No One Escapes Death activates to build pressure in the Endgame.

  • Agitation (The Trapper) – While carrying a Survivor, the Killers’ movement speed is increased by 18% and their Terror Radius is increased by 12 meters.
  • Hex: No One Escapes Death (General Perk) – After the final generator is completed, all Survivors suffer from the Exposed status ailment, and you gain a 4% Haste effect until the Hex Totem is cleansed.
  • Sloppy Butcher (General Perk) – Basic attacks inflict the Mangled and Hemorrhage status ailments for 90 seconds, slowing down healing by 25% and regressing healing progress when left unfinished.
  • Whispers (General Perk) – This perk icon will light up, and the Killer will hear The Entity’s whisper when within 32 meters of a Survivor.

The Trapper: Best Build (2024)

Perhaps the best build for The Trapper in Dead by Daylight makes use of The Plague's incredibly powerful Corrupt Intervention, which gives players plenty of time to establish a three-generator setup surrounded by traps. Moreover, Scourge Hook: Pain Resonance and No Way Out will enforce severe slowdown penalties each time a Survivor is hooked, while Hex: No One Escapes Death ensures more downs in the endgame.

  • Corrupt Intervention (The Plague) – At the start of the trial, the 3 generators furthest from the killer's starting location are blocked for 120 seconds or until the first survivor is downed.
  • Scourge Hook: Pain Resonance (The Artist) – The Killer starts with four tokens. For each different Survivor hooked on a white Scourge Hook, they lose one token and explode the generator with the most progress, causing it to lose 25% of progress.
  • No Way Out (The Trickster) – At the end of the trial when a survivor interacts with an exit gate, users will receive a noise notification, and the exit gates will be blocked for 12 seconds, plus another 12 seconds for each new survivor hooked.
  • Hex: No One Escapes Death (General Perk) – After the final generator is completed, all Survivors suffer from the Exposed status ailment, and you gain a 4% Haste effect until the Hex Totem is cleansed.

The Trapper: Best Add-Ons

As one of the weaker Killers among the Entity’s chosen, The Trapper becomes increasingly reliant on his strongest add-ons as you face more competent Survivors. This section of the best builds guide focuses on The Trapper’s best add-ons, ordered by their rarity.

Trapper Gloves

Though only a small effect, the Trapper Gloves are a great brown add-on that speed up the setting of Bear Traps by 30%, allowing you to more easily re-engage in chases while trapping resources.

Makeshift Wrap

dead by daylight the trapper makeshift wrap addon

While not impressive on paper, the Makeshift Wrap is an exceptional add-on, allowing The Trapper to extend unsafe loops. By trapping shorter tiles, Survivors are forced to take longer routes to resources, while The Trapper can safely walk through his Bear Traps and catch up more quickly.

Coffee Grounds

Like the Trapper Gloves, the Uncommon Coffee Grounds – which give The Trapper a 5%Haste effect for 5 seconds after setting up a trap – make it slightly easier to catch up to fleeing Survivors while you set up traps.

4-Coil Spring Kit

dead by daylight the trapper 4 coil spring kit addon

The 4-Coil Spring Kit increases the time it takes for Survivors to disarm traps by 33%, making mid-chase disarms less viable.

Trapper Bag

Among The Trapper’s very best add-ons, the Rare Trapper Bag allows you to carry one extra trap throughout the trial. This can help speed up set-up times enormously.

Secondary Coil

Able to stack with the 4-Coil Spring Kit, the Secondary Coil increases the time it takes survivors to disarm Bear Traps by 50%.

Fastening Tools

Pairing well with the Trapper Gloves, the Fastening Tools speed up Bear Trap setting speeds by 50% and slow down Bear Trap escape attempts by 25%.

Trapper Sack

dead by daylight the trapper trapper sack addon

Arguably The Trapper’s best add-on, but one that should only be used by Dead by Daylight adepts, the Trapper Sack allows you to start the trial with all your Bear Traps at the cost of being unable to retrieve them once they have been set. This massively reduces set-up time, but requires that you play exceedingly territorially and place your traps carefully and efficiently.

Honing Stone

dead by daylight the trapper honing stone addon

A great add-on that slows down lone and uncoordinated Survivors enormously, the Honing Stone puts those who attempt to escape Bear Traps alone into the dying state.

Iridescent Stone

dead by daylight the trapper iridescent stone addon

A simple and surprisingly effective means of pressuring Survivors from afar, the Iridescent Stone resets Bear Traps at random every 30 seconds. This frequently catches plenty of Survivors off-guard and reduces set-up times.

Bloody Coil

dead by daylight the trapper bloody coil addon

One of the most popular Trapper Add-Ons, this Very Rare Bloody Coilinjures Survivors who attempt to disarmBear Traps. This can make rescuing hooked Survivors very difficult and spreads pressure from afar, though many coordinated teams will likely stay injured or partially heal to counter this effect.
