Highlights

  • Dead by Daylight's unique finisher executions, called Moris, showcase a killer character's originality but are rarely seen due to their extensive requirements and the need to bring a Memento Mori offering.
  • With the introduction of Alien content and the Xenomorph as a killer character, fans are excited to see what its Mori will be like and hope it draws inspiration from memorable kills in MKX and the Xenomorph's theatrical appearances.
  • Moris provide an opportunity for Behaviour to add more fanfare for a killer character, showcasing an intimate connection between the killer and their prey. The Xenomorph's inner jaw attack would be a fitting and impactful Mori.

Dead by Daylight features unique finisher executions that killer characters can perform with the required offering brought to a match called Memento Moris. These kills are fascinating in how they can further represent a killer character’s originality, with some being more creative or elaborate than others, but fans seldom see Dead by Daylight’s Memento Mori kills unless a character is being experimented with in a pre-release PTB or if the killer player happens to be completing an associable tome challenge.

The reason why Moris aren’t seen often boils down to the extensive requirements it can take to earn them—Ebony Memento Moris are activated on survivors that are downed, for example, but only when they have progressed two hook stages—as well as needing to bring a Memento Mori offering in place of any other advantageous item such as a Pudding. Now that Dead by Daylight is introducing Alien content and the Xenomorph as a killer character, it will be exciting to see what its Mori will be like.

Dead by Daylight Can Put the Xenomorph’s Iconic Pharyngeal Jaw to Use

This inner jaw is memorable alone for how it suddenly juts out and punctures the Xenomorph’s victim, usually straight through their face and erupting out the back of their head. MKX represented this well in one of the Xenomorph’s Fatalities, for instance, and in fact Dead by Daylight would be smart to draw inspiration from MKX’s iteration of the creature since it managed to capture a lot of the iconic kills it has executed in theatrical appearances.

The inner jaw impalement may be the most intimate kill, which would be perfect for how Moris are intimate between the killer and their downed survivor prey, and likely the most simple to animate out of any potential executions. However, not every licensed killer in Dead by Daylight has a Mori which is a readily memorable way that character has butchered someone.

Behaviour could potentially do the same with the Xenomorph, but there are a lot of options left on the table from decades of Alien and Xenomorph iconography for it to lean on if it needs to. That said, an original Mori kill that isn’t as impactful or iconic as a kill the Xenomorph has performed before would likely feel underwhelming.

In the same way that licensed survivors need to have perks that represent them faithfully, Moris are the perfect opportunity for Behaviour to add a bit more fanfare for a killer character, even if they are rarely seen within Dead by Daylight’s actual match-to-match meta. Moris aren’t terribly controversial, either, but some killer players may tunnel survivors in order to achieve those executions, which obviously leads to a negative connotation for how some players might attempt to make use of their offering and not waste it by not getting a single Mori.

The Xenomorph’s inner jaw attack would really only make sense for a Mori anyway, and not a regular power, since it is usually an instant-kill tactic. Regardless, it will be exciting to see what the Xenomorph’s power, Mori, and perks will actually end up being like in Dead by Daylight, and such details might arrive as soon as Tuesday with a PTB for fans to play the Xenomorph themselves.

Dead by Daylight is available on Mobile, Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
