The team behind DC Universe Online has recently announced that the game will have a pretty big update soon, including a whole new story chapter and ports for next-gen consoles. DC Universe Online is one of the best free superhero games around, and it’s set to get even better with these updates, which combine more content with several quality-of-life improvements.

Released back in 2011 for PS3 and PC, DC Universe Online had a pretty tumultuous launch. DCUO became free to play less than a year after its release due to not being as popular as originally planned. However, in its F2P model, the title remained popular over the decade, which helped it to create a strong community, and now there’s a huge update coming up.

The official DC Universe Online website recently unveiled that “Episode 46: Justice League Dark Cursed” is coming up in October. The new seasonal content comes on the heels of the Save the Universe event, which is currently happening and will continue into September. In the story of the upcoming episode, a powerful curse is affecting magic users all around the world, and Batman and Constantine team up with some members of the Justice League Dark to save the world from these evil forces. The update will feature several DC characters like Wonder Woman, Zatanna, and Deadman, offer new gear, styles, open-world missions, and raids, and will serve as an indirect sequel to Episode 34: Justice League Dark, which was a critically acclaimed story released back in 2019.

Another relevant aspect of the update is the announcement of the next-gen versions of DC Universe Online, which will be available for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S during the holidays if everything goes as planned. Previously, the next-gen DCUO update was delayed back in 2021, but it seems like it’ll finally be out this year. According to the official announcement, the update will also come with a few gameplay and quality-of-life improvements.

Hopefully, these updates will make the experience of playing DC Universe Online even better than it currently is. Marvel and DC have several excellent games available for superhero fans, but DCUO is certainly one of the oldest ones, and this update will be an important step to continue to make the title’s experience feel fresh to modern audiences. The game currently has a strong, dedicated community, and this may even bring more people to play it.

DC Universe Online is available for Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. PS5 and Xbox Series X/S versions are planned to release Holiday 2023.
