The DCEU is pivoting to the DCU under the direction of James Gunn. This will include a partial reboot, along with the introduction of some more obscure superheroes and teams that haven't already had movies. This approach mimics the decision by Marvel in the early stages of the MCU when Iron Man and Thor received their own movies. One of the first obscure teams to make an appearance will be the animated series Creature Commandos.

This obscure team features volunteers who were mutated into soldiers that look similar to some of the greatest horror monsters and creatures in pop culture. In the comics, this team has featured some of the strongest characters ever created by DC. These are some of the best.

10 Rick Flag Sr.

Rick Flag Sr.

Rick Flag Sr. is the father of Suicide Squad leader Rick Flag. He is expected to act as the head of the Creature Commandos and serve as a tough leader for this ragtag group of heroes. Flag will be taking over the leadership role that was originally held by Lt. Matthew Shrieve in the DC Comics canon.

The elder Flag has an impressive history in the comics that includes tenures as the leader of both the Suicide Squadron and Task Force X. Rick Flag Sr. appears to be headed to several other DCU projects along the way.

9 Weasel

Weasel

Weasel is the weakest of the actual creatures in the Creature Commandos. He is slightly stronger than Rick Flag Sr, but that's only because Flag is human. In the comics, Weasel was quickly dispatched by Col. Rick Flag Jr. On screen, he already appeared in James Gunn's version of The Suicide Squad and has proved to be hard to kill.

Weasel has already survived the Corto Maltese situation. While resourceful, Weasel is far from strong. But, as he was played by James Gunn's brother Sean in The Suicide Squad, viewers shouldn't be surprised if he appears again outside this series.

8 Wolfpack

Wolfpack is basically DC's version of the Wolfman. A timid man named Warren Griffith was hallucinating that he was transforming into a werewolf. Project M made the transformations real, but also unpredictable. Wolfpack's sense of smell, his strength, and his fangs are all enhanced by the serum that led to him joining the Commandos.

Wolfpack is not confirmed for the Creature Commandos series, at least not yet. But if James Gunn's version of the DCU can get off the ground running, the more ferocious and unpredictable Wolfpack seen in modern comics could make an appearance down the line.

7 G. I. Robot

G.I. Robot

While there have been at least six versions of G. I. Robot to appear in the comics, from the early animation work seen so far, the Creature Commandos version appears to J.A.K.E. 2 or Jungle Automatic Killer - Experimental Number 2. In the comics, J.A.K.E. 2 takes over after J.A.K.E. 1 sacrifices himself to save the team.

G. I. Robot is known for his intense weaponry and ability to fly short distances. J.A.K.E 2 is believed to be able to survive until the 31st Century in the comics, so it will be interesting to see if his presence leads to the introduction of the Legion of Superheroes.

6 Dr. Medusa

Dr. Medusa

Medusa is one of the most frightening creatures in mythology, and her DC Comics counterpart is equally frightening. She started as a plastic surgeon during World War II. But, while operating on Commandos leader, Lt. Matthew Shrieve, an experimental pair of glasses turns her into Dr. Medusa, a gorgon with snakes for hair.

Throughout her time in the comics, Dr. Medusa's mutation becomes much more noticeable. She is not confirmed for the upcoming Creature Commandos animated series, but given her many iterations in the comics, it's likely she will show up at some point in the DCU.

5 Dr. Phosphorous

Dr. Phosphorous

Another Batman villain is finally getting his time to shine on a hero team, or at least an anti-hero team. Dr. Phosphorous has been a member of the Caped Crusader's rogues gallery since his introduction. Dr. Alex Sartorious is a specialist in radiation who is turned into his villainous persona due to a nuclear meltdown.

Dr. Phosphorous joined the Creature Commandos as part of the Flashpoint storyline. With many rumors surrounding the upcoming Flash film as part of the last vestiges of the DCEU, his inclusion may confirm what many have suspected about the plot of the Flash.

4 Sgt. Vincent Velcoro

Sgt. Vincent Velcoro

The scientific vampire is incredibly strong and can transform himself into a bat. Velcoro was a soldier who was convicted of treason. Rather than go to prison, he chose to be one of Project M's experiments. At different times in the comics, the concoctions used to the transform him have been derived from either vampire bats or the Man-Bat formula.

Velcoro can be in the sunlight and has no issues with running water or crucifixes. But he must drink human blood daily to survive. Velcoro is not confirmed for the Creature Commandos series, but vampires have waves of popularity, so if there's a vampire surge, he may appear in the larger DCU.

3 Dr. Nina Mazursky

Dr. Nina Mazursky

Another addition created as part of the Flashpoint story, Dr. Mazursky is a hybrid: part human and part amphibian. In many incarnations, she requires a water-logged helmet to breathe on the surface. She is the resident scientist of the Creature Commandos, often coming through in the clutch.

Originally, her father ran the project that created the Commandos. In more modern comics, she has become a mother-like figure to many of them and helps guide them to a more heroic vision.

2 Frankenstein

Frankenstein

One of Dr. Frankenstein's monsters appears to have been roaming the Earth during World War II. Private Elliot Taylor was severely injured while stepping on a landmine. He was stitched back together, but the damage to his vocal cords left him with a limited vocabulary.

The DCU version of Frankenstein will be called Eric Frankenstein. While it's unclear who Eric will be at this point in the DC canon, the Frankenstein seen in the comics joined several organizations similar to the Creature Commandos like S.H.A.D.E. and Justice League Dark.

1 Bride of Frankenstein

Bride of Frankenstein

Technically, she's the ex-wife of Frankenstein, but the Bride is easily the strongest member of the Creature Commandos in the comics. In the original comics, her roots are faithful to Mary Shelley's novel. But, in more modern reboots, she is incredibly deadly, with some weird powers, and was manipulated into joining the Commandos.

James Gunn has identified the Bride as the star of the upcoming Creature Commandos television show. She is an expert marksman (or undead woman), with zombie strength, durability and stamina. This is a woman who should not be scorned.
