Highlights

  • The recent years have been lackluster for DC video games, with mostly mobile games and titles aimed at kids.
  • The highly anticipated Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League has faced setbacks and mixed reception, but still has the potential to be a great DC game.
  • The Wolf Among Us 2, a long-awaited sequel, is set to release in 2024 and is expected to be worth the wait.

After redefining the superhero video game genre back in 2009 with Batman: Arkham Asylum, DC was on top of the world, at least for a little while. Thanks to the rest of the Arkham series, the Batman Telltale games, NetherRealm's Injustice, DC Universe Online, and the LEGO Batman games, DC's video game division always had something to offer, even when its cinematic department was dropping the ball. But for the last few years, DC's video game output hasn't been all that great.

The 2020s have been pretty barren for DC video games. The last three years have mostly consisted of mobile games and titles based on kid's shows like DC Super Hero Girls and movies like DC League of Super-Pets. The only big AAA DC video game release of the 2020s so far was last year's Gotham Knights, a disappointing co-op adventure that had no shortage of issues. But the 2020s are far from over, and 2024 has the potential to really turn things around for DC video games.

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League Could Kick Off 2024 With a Bang

Rocksteady's Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League has had a rocky few years. Announced all the way back in August 2020, many fans were initially disappointed that Rocksteady wasn't working on another Batman game, or a long-rumored Superman game, but many came back around thanks to Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League's intriguing first few trailers. But once fans finally got to see an extended look at gameplay earlier this year, the reception around the game changed in a heartbeat, causing Warner Bros. and Rocksteady to delay the game by almost an entire year.

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is set to release in just a few months, on February 2, 2024, and the reception around the game is still shaky. Though Rocksteady is doing its best to remain transparent and show more of what Suicide Squad has to offer, the recent wave of leaks surrounding the game's story hasn't helped at all. But even in spite of the gameplay trailers, the alpha tests, and now these damaging leaks, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League still has the potential to be one of the best DC games ever made, it just all needs to come together in the end.

The Wolf Among Us 2 Is Finally Set to Release in 2024

A sequel a decade in the making, The Wolf Among Us 2 is finally set to launch sometime in 2024. Taking place six months after the events of the first game, The Wolf Among Us 2 once again puts players into the shoes of Bigby, the Sheriff of Fabletown. Based on the Fables comic series, The Wolf Among Us 2 will see players dive even deeper into the neon-soaked, detective noir rabbit hole where the lines between fantastical and real are continuously blurred. Being published by Telltale Games and developed by AdHoc Studio, a team full of ex-Telltale devs, The Wolf Among Us 2 is sure to be a sequel that was well worth the wait.

Fans Might See More From Monolith's Wonder Woman in 2024

First announced at the 2022 Game Awards, Monolith Productions' Wonder Woman game has remained radio silent ever since. While it seems fairly unlikely at this point that Wonder Woman will release in 2024, it does seem probable that fans will get to see more about the game this year, likely during the swathe of June showcases, or all the way at the end of the year during the 2024 Game Awards.
