With in-person events canceled this year, including big game conventions like E3 and PAX, studios are finding new methods to bring news to fans. Online presentations such as the Sony Future of Gaming PS5 reveal, Nintendo Direct, or Ubisoft Forward are the latest in a trend of virtual conventions. DC FanDome is next on the calendar on August 22 and is set to bring the biggest news in all DC movies, TV shows, comics, and video games.

In place of making announcements at Comic-Con, DC has opted to create its own virtual convention that will provide a platform for updates on all things under the DC umbrella. Announcements from Rocksteady and Warner Bros. Montreal are expected at the online event, but an official schedule hasn’t been released, so there are potentially more announcements in the world of gaming that could be announced.

Suicide Squad

rocksteady studios announce suicide squad game

Rocksteady recently confirmed that its next project was the long suspected Suicide Squad game. The Batman Arkham developer released an official teaser poster showing a crosshair over Superman’s head, with the tease that more news will be revealed at DC FanDome. Rocksteady already has experience with many members of the Suicide Squad who have appeared in the Batman Arkham games over the years, so it's a natural progression for the studio to be taking on the iconic team. Rocksteady has allegedly been working on the game for five years, but a release date is still expected to be a while away. Suicide Squad is the one game that players can definitely expect news from at DC FanDome.

Batman Arkham 2020

With Rocksteady occupied by Suicide Squad, it’s long been teased that WB Montreal’s next project is continuing the Batman Arkham franchise. The studio worked on Arkham Origins, making it the natural choice to take the reins on the next game. It’s highly speculated that news about the next Batman game will be revealed at DC FanDome. What the new Batman story will be about is another question, with many theories pointing to the Court of Owls storyline. WB Games also trademarked a web domain titled Gotham City Knights which might indicate that the game will focus on a playable Bat Family.

Injustice 3

injustice 3 reveal

Rumors that a third Injustice game could make an appearance at DC FanDome have been circulating for a while now. The biggest indicator that this could happen is the confirmation that NetherRealm head Ed Boon is part of the DC FanDome lineup. It’s possible he could be there to make a Mortal Kombat related announcement, but at the same time, he could be there to discuss something new. As a DC event, a new Injustice game announcement would fit right in with the theme of the program and NetherRealm has a habit of alternating between franchises. Seeing as Mortal Kombat 11 had a release last year, it is possible Injustice 3 is the studio’s next project if the pattern is to be upheld.

Harry Potter RPG

While Harry Potter isn’t a DC property, the Warner Bros. games division is said to be developing a new video game based on the studios' other hit IP. The rumored and highly anticipated Harry Potter RPG could get its announcement at DC FanDome which would put life back into the video game arm of the franchise, although this is highly unlikely. There are limitless possibilities for how a Harry Potter RPG could play out, but placing players into the shoes of a Hogwarts student is enough to get most fans excited.

Superman

A Superman game has been nothing more than fleeting rumors at this point as nothing seems to make it off the ground. It is possible that the earlier rumors of Rocksteady’s Superman game were in relation to whatever appearance Superman will make in Suicide Squad, but the hero is free for development and announcing a Superman game could be the surprise announcement that makes DC FanDome memorable for years to come. It's worth mentioning, though, that this seems far more unlikely than Harry Potter even.

DC FanDome will take place online on August 22.
