DayZ puts players in the role of survivors scavenging for supplies while dealing with a zombie outbreak and other players. Like most games, DayZ receives updates to fix bugs and other issues or add new content to the game.

A new trailer was recently released for DayZ for its new 1.16 update. The trailer has a cinematic angle to it, as it showed the central player character scoping out rival player characters, luring them into a trap, and then eliminating them with a new weapon and item. DayZ's 1.16 update is currently live on all release platforms for players to access.

To go with the new trailer, DayZ's developer Bohemia Interactive also released the patch notes for the new update that provides more details on it. The new 1.16 update mainly serves as a "clean sweep" for the game to start off 2022, as the developers fixed everything possible within a certain timeframe. This also allows the developers to plan out the game content in future updates to DayZ.

The new patch notes for update 1.16 provide the list of fixes and improvements that have been added to DayZ to deal with balancing and gameplay issues. Some of the fixes include base building walls that could be destroyed by shooting the frames from outside, bear traps can break the Infected's legs, firearms with internal magazines have a randomized quantity of bullets, and more. According to the post, these were only some of the fixes since there were too many to list.

The new update also has server-side gameplay settings expanded with the ability to switch off the 2D map layout. The update also adds new parameters for controlling "the length of the unconscious state" so that players can tailor the gameplay experience to their specific play styles. The developers also used the update to increase the limits of script class indexing, and there have been extensions to the firearms' API. This allows weapon magazines and bullets to spawn directly into any new empty firearms in DayZ.

The last part of DayZ's new update patch notes says the game has a new weapon called the Bizon, an "AK-based .380 submachine gun" that comes with an extra-large magazine. The update also adds a new item that players can use simply called the Alarm Clock, which lets players see the in-game time as well as set an alarm on the clock with a specified time to scare rival players and lure the Infected. Both of these new items were prominently used in the new teaser trailer for DayZ's 1.16 update.

DayZ is available now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
