It won't be too much longer before Sony fans looking forward to Days Gone will be able to give it a go, with the open world title set to release in just a little more than a month from now. Of course, many eager to experience what the game has to offer will be scrounging for as much information as possible about its contents before committing to purchase, and if SIE Bend Studio's creative director John Garvin is to be believed, then Days Gone shares some similarities to the developer's 1999 PlayStation classic, Syphon Filter.

During a recent interview, Garvin declared that he believes Days Gone has a lot in common with some of Bend Studio's older projects, as the development company's creative director exclaimed, "I don’t think Days Gone is that different from Syphon Filter at all!" According to Garvin, this is due to the fact that the upcoming PS4 exclusive has been rooted in a "narrative-driven experience" since its inception and reflects Bend Studio's capacity to continue delivering "third-person, character-driven experiences that [have] a focus on story."

Garvin doesn't compare Days Gone to Syphon Filter in any other context besides the former having an emphasis on plot and character development, but according to details that Bend Studio recently revealed about the PS4 exclusive's length, it definitely seems as if the developer isn't bluffing about it having a heavy story focus. As it so happens, SIE Bend stated not too long ago that Days Gone will have roughly six hours' worth of cut-scenes, which represents about 20% of the total game.

For those who have been keeping up with Days Gone's development since its reveal at E3 2016, it should come as no surprise that the game's plot will be the centerpiece of the project. After all, Bend Studio has put out a bevy of different trailers after the game's public unveiling that showcase the characteristics and motivations of the game's protagonist, Deacon St. John.

There's no doubt that plenty of gamers and Days Gone's development team alike are excited to finally see the PS4 exclusive officially hit store shelves in April 2019, but it's anyone's guess at the moment as to what project Bend Studio will turn its attention toward after the game's release. Days Gone story DLC could always be in the cards, but with Sony having renewed the Syphon Filter trademark about a year ago, perhaps SIE Bend will shift its focus onto work for a new entry in the stealth-action series.

Days Gone is scheduled to release on April 26, 2019 for PlayStation 4.
