Days Gone wasn't necessarily the major blockbuster release that Sony was hoping for on PlayStation 4. Good but not great review scores mixed with great but not outstanding sales were enough for Sony to decide to not greenlight a sequel. Now, Sony and Bend Studio have a second opportunity for Days Gone to have a successful launch, as a PC port is releasing soon. However, some PC gamers may be disappointed to hear that Days Gone won't be adding certain high-end PC features.

A new FAQ has been uploaded for the PC port of Days Gone that details important release information, as well as technical details like minimum and recommended system requirements. Some particularly interesting answers are for questions related to high-end PC features. Unfortunately, the questions lead to disappointing answers. Days Gone's PC port will neither support ray tracing for lighting, reflections, and shadows, nor Nvidia's DLSS for boosting frame rates.

To avoid any confusion, there was never any expectation that either ray tracing or DLSS would be supported in Days Gone on PC. DLSS isn't supported by either the PS4 or PS5, and Days Gone being a PS4 game and not a PS5 game likely prevented Bend Studio from adding ray tracing on console. Still, many PC gamers were hopeful that Sony would support the features being added to the game as part of the porting process. That expectation was perhaps unreasonable.

The FAQ does list several features that Days Gone on PC will support, too, of course. The most important which being support for a targeted 60 FPS at recommended specifications. However, it also allows for unlocked framerate for high-end machines aiming for much higher framerates. Days Gone also supports ultra-wide monitors, altering the field of view up to 100 degrees, and a dozen other graphics settings including texture and lighting settings, and even HDR options.

In other words, Sony did do its due diligence in porting Days Gone to PC. The game is robustly supported on PC with a diverse range of graphics options that should make for an optimized experience across all manner of PC hardware configurations. DLSS and ray tracing support would have been great, but would ultimately be for a minority of users anyway.

Ray tracing, at the very least, may be better supported by Sony in future years due to the increased usage of the technology for PS5 games. That's reliant on Sony continuing to port games like Days Gone, Horizon: Zero Dawn, and other titles to PC in the future. Still, it never hurts to ask Sony to consider supporting these features in the future.

Days Gone is available now on PS4 and arrives on PC on May 17.
