Not too long ago, Days Gone's creative director John Garvin offered up a slew of new gameplay details regarding the forthcoming action-adventure release from Sony and Bend Studio that provides insights into customization, difficulty, and more. Building on that information, Garvin also discussed how much of a role the protagonist Deacon St. John's motorcycle plays in the title, with the creative director confirming that players will be able to upgrade it in several different ways.

During a recent interview with Game Informer, Garvin was asked multiple times about the motorcycle in Days Gone, with the developer starting off his discussion of the ride by saying that Deacon St. John "picked the best vehicle for the Freaker apocalypse." The creative director then goes on to point out that while riding the motorcycle "bad guys do hear him coming if he doesn't upgrade his bike so that he has a better muffler." This leads to the confirmation that players can not only upgrade the muffler, but also the paint, handling, and its speed boosts, with the parts that get replaced making it a different bike altogether.

Deacon St. John's motorcycle gets an intensive amount of attention throughout the interview, with Garvin fielding numerous questions about how the vehicle will be used within the post-apocalyptic world of Days Gone. For instance, in addition to the upgrades, it is revealed that the bike will occasionally break down during operation and require repairs. What's more is that inattentive players can also lose the motorcycle, and when it's lost, they will be tasked with finding it out in the field.

As far as its capabilities are concerned, Deacon St. John's motorcycle will primarily function as a way to get him from point A to point B, as there will be no over-the-top stylistics or tricks that can be used such as wheelies and stoppies. However, Garvin does reveal that Days Gone will reward players with "points for doing stunts", but it isn't totally clarified as to how they will be tallied and used in-game.

All things considered, it seems as if Bend Studio has designed Days Gone in a way that will make Deacon St. John's motorcycle central to the experience, as it will be a reliable companion over the course of many missions. And while it looks as though the developer has done its due diligence in assuring that the bike operates as realistically as possible within the forthcoming PS4 exclusive, only time will tell if it becomes one of our favorite video game vehicles we actually want to drive.

Days Gone is set to release at some point in early 2019 for PlayStation 4.
