The last two entries in the Darksiders franchise were Darksiders 3 and Darksiders Genesis, and while the latter was more of a spin-off than anything, it means all four Horsemen have been explored in-game: War, Death, Fury, and Strife. It's also been a couple of years, so many fans are hoping to hear more about the franchise soon.

However, when THQ Nordic recently teased having a bunch of games in the pipeline, it also confirmed several were unannounced. One of these could be a new Darksiders game, and perhaps capitalizing on this, a new "leak" has come out. While it's interesting, fans should be aware that this is probably fake and not hold their breath for THQ Nordic or Gunfire Games to announce it, not in this form or shape anyway.

What the Darksiders 4 Leak Says

All of this should be taken as false until proven otherwise. The "leak" claims the title is Darksiders 4: Exodus, which breaks a ton of franchise conventions, and is a co-op looter brawler where all four Horsemen are playable. They claim each Horsemen is basically its own class, with War being a Warrior, Death being a Mage, Fury being an Assassin, and Strife being a zoning Ranger (though they misspell Strife's name as Stryfe throughout the post).

It claims the gameplay is solid, "if heavy," and has new mechanics like stamina to contend with. It also claims it's a semi-open world game, something more comparable to Destiny in terms of scope. Presumably, this means the base game and not the various expansions. And, to top it all off, it claims Darksiders 4 takes place after the events of the first game, finally carrying the narrative forward.

Darksiders 4: Two Reasons This Leak is Fake

However, there are two major reasons why this is likely fake, with the second one ultimately being a nail in the coffin. In the first place, it reads very much like a wish list and not a bonafide leak. A general rule of thumb is that the more a leak claims to know, the less likely it's real. Assets aren't going to reveal everything, and even though this is supposedly an "alpha test" leak, knowing as many details about the story as it lists, as well as so much about each class is unrealistic.

If this isn't enough to convince anyone, however, Gunfire Games (developer of Darksiders) responded to the leak in a repost online of it. It was a simple GIF of J. Jonah Jameson laughing. That basically seals the deal.

Darksiders 4 is not confirmed to be in development.
