As players upgrade their heroes and abilities in Darkest Dungeon 2, the focus can get put on the combat in a hurry. Combat is a colossal portion of the game and should not be neglected. But having a basic stagecoach for a run will make the journey a failure just as much as losing a fight will.
More than just a vehicle for staving off defeat, the stagecoach in Darkest Dungeon 2 can be a major contributor, even in combat. By giving players more items, food, trinkets, and flame charge, the quest to beat the game can start and end with a strong stagecoach.
Upgrading The Stagecoach
- Reach an Inn.
- Click the Wainwright tab.
- Equip or unequip items.
Inns will pop up at the end of each segment. In addition to the Wainwright, they also have a Provisioner, Trainer, and a selection of goods for sale. The Wainwright can install any stagecoach items at that time. Any items found outside of the Inn cannot be equipped until arriving at an Inn.
As popular characters return to the franchise, the stagecoach's popularity will grow with more upgrades. At its base model, it's actually something of a liability that can get the party destroyed as it consumes flame and doesn't contribute anything to the battle.
How To Get Stagecoach Upgrades
- Occasionally rewarded from Assistance Encounters
- Purchased from the Provisioner
- Purchased from the Hoarder
- Random debris on the road
As a roguelike game, players don't have a way to regularly assume themselves of any specific upgrades. However, hitting everything that appears on the road will often yield a few items for the stagecoach in every run. It's always worth veering the cart to see.
Provisioners and Hoarders will often have some for sale. Assistance Encounters will sometimes yield these upgrades as well. A great stagecoach is as supportive as an ideal Plague Doctor build, so aim for these kinds of encounters when given the choice.
