Dark Souls 3 is famous for its tough combat encounters, including some of the best Boss fights the Souls franchise has ever seen. The game also provides you with an option to convert the Soul of a defeated boss into a unique and powerful boss weapon.
The Farron Greatsword is one of the boss weapons that can be acquired after completing the Abyss Watchers boss fight. It is an Ultra Greatsword and has movesets that require skill to master and use effectively. Still, it is a great weapon nonetheless, and using the best build for the Farron Greatsword can help you make the most of this blade.

Dark Souls 3: All Staff Weapons, Ranked
Dark Souls 3 has a plethora of staffs that players can choose from, but these are the best options.
How to Get Farron Greatsword
The Farron Greatsword is a boss weapon that you can obtain after defeating the Abyss Watchers. They are a mandatory boss fight, which you will find by traversing the Farron Keep until you will come across a building. It is here where you will find the Abyss Watchers.
Abyss Watchers will be equipped with Farron Greatsword and will pose a great challenge to players, with phase two of the fight being particularly troublesome. Once you are successful, you will be rewarded with the Soul of the Blood of the Wolf, which you can transpose at the Firelink Shrine with Ludleth of Courland at no Soul cost.
Farron Greatsword Overview
The Farron Greatsword is an Ultra Greatsword and, therefore, is more inclined towards Quality builds. It is a unique two-piece weapon that leans toward Dexterity more than Strength and is one of the lightest Ultra Greatswords in the game. It also consumes little Stamina to use compared to other weapons in its class.
Since it is kind of a paired weapon, two-handing will allow you to equip a dagger in the left hand which you can use to parry, thanks to Farron Greatsword’s skill “Parry”. The Farron Greatsword also intrinsically deals bonus damage to enemies rooted in the Abyss.
Being a boss weapon, Farron Greatsword can not be infused and requires Twinkling Titanite to upgrade it. It also has a unique moveset when two-handing it, allowing you to forward lunge and plant the dagger in the ground, bringing the sword in a slashing strike. Further input yields a spinning attack while using the dagger to lock it in place.

Dark Souls 3: Hardest Bosses, Ranked
The Dark Souls series is notorious for its difficulty, and these Dark Souls 3 bosses are prime examples of why that is.
Stat Requirements & Scaling
Since Farron Greatsword is an Ultra Greatsword and deals only Physical damage it scales only with Strength and Dexterity. It requires 18 Strength and 20 Dexterity to wield effectively and comes with a D in Strength and C in Dexterity.
This scaling can be upgraded to a C in Strength and an A in Dexterity by upgrading this weapon to +5. It deals heavy damage to enemies and, being an Ultra Greatsword, is capable of hitting several enemies at a time.
Farron Greatsword | Physical Damage | Strength Scaling | Dexterity Scaling |
---|---|---|---|
Standard | 141 | D | C |
Standard +1 | 165 | D | C |
Standard +2 | 188 | D | B |
Standard +3 | 211 | D | B |
Standard +4 | 234 | C | B |
Standard +5 | 258 | C | A |
Stats to Focus
Since Farron Greatsword scales with Strength and Dexterity only with more scaling in Dexterity, your priority should be Dexterity and then you should consider leveling up your Strength. Ideally, you should level up your Dexterity to 40 before focusing on Strength.
Besides Strength and Dexterity, you should level up Vigor and Endurance. More Vigor equals more Health points and more Endurance equals more Stamina, both of which are essential to keep you up in a fight.
First Priority | Dexterity and Strength |
---|---|
Second Priority | Vigor and Endurance |
Rings
Since we are using a Quality build with Farron Greatsword and not taking advantage of any spells we will use Rings that boost our Stamina, Vigor, and Vitality.
- Prisoner’s Chain / Ring of Favour: Increases Vigor, Endurance, and Vitality.
- Chloranthy Ring: Raises Stamina recovery speed (+7 Stamina per second)
- Estus Ring: Increased HP restored with Estus Flasks by 20%.
- Ring of Steel Protection: Decreases incoming Physical damage by 10 percent in PvE.
