The Spider-Man 3 development production process has dished out so many rumors it can be hard to keep track of just which villain or actor is set to make a comeback in the Spider-Verse in 2021.

In recent weeks one of those rumored picks has been Charlie Cox’s Daredevil, who just happened to be the most loved out of Netflix’s forays into Marvel and is a fellow New York resident that would have no problem slotting into whatever plot is being cooked up for Spider-Man 3. That coupled with Marvel Studios’ Kevin Feige admitting that he is open to reintroducing characters from Netflix’s shows has really put the Daredevil rumor mill to work.

As if that weren’t enough, now ComicBook.com reports that Cox has been seen recently in the set of Spider-Man 3, currently filming in Atlanta, suggesting the actor may have even wrapped up some for his scenes for the film already. As is known already, Spider-Man 3’s plot is reported to play hard on the multiverse elements, especially with the potential inclusion of Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange, whose sequel movies happens to be aptly named Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

Even if Cox does come back as Daredevil, it’s not fully known in what capacity that will be, given the actor could either reprise the same exact incarnation of Daredevil meant for mature audiences or just show up as an entirely new Matt Murdock more in tune with the MCU. If Cox is indeed back for Spider-Man 3, his role could be largely defined by whether Disney has any long-term plans for Daredevil within the MCU or not.

Disney became legally able to use Daredevil and the rest of the Defenders characters exactly on November 29 however they deemed fit, as this was part of the deal the studio and Netflix agreed upon after the series' cancellation and transfers of rights. Daredevil was undoubtedly Netflix's most successful Marvel series and really the only one of those shows that still has a fan base clamoring for its return.

Having Cox’s Daredevil enter the MCU in Spider-Man 3 would be the icing on the cake for a film that’s already looking like Marvel’s crown jewel this year and that’s without knowing how exactly it will tie its dimension twists with Doctor Strange and even possibly WandaVision.
