Daredevil: Born Again will finally bring Matt Murdock and Wilson Fisk to the MCU. While both Spider-Man: No Way Home and Hawkeye teased some of their backstories, the upcoming Disney Plus show finally appears to have picked its Marvel Comics inspiration.

As the new Daredevil series continues filming in New York, several leaked images from the set have foreshadowed new characters, the superhero's civilian attire, and even a wholly new look for the Kingpin, one that’s not as bold as his outfits from the Netflix Daredevil series and Hawkeye. With that in mind, some fans pointed out that this could mean that Vincent D'Onofrio will start a political campaign that adapts Kingpin's run as Mayor Fisk in Daredevil canon.

Thanks to new images from the fan account Nerd It Here First, that seems to be the case. Some pictures taken from Daredevil: Born Again's filming location feature a crowd holding foam hands bearing Fisk's name, with other marketing goodies proudly showing the PymvanDyne Foundation label. The photos instantly sparked replies from fans who noted the similarities between this scene and a still taken straight from Daredevil #595 (Mayor Fisk Part 1), where Kingpin can be seen celebrating his victory that crowns him Mayor of New York.

One key difference between the comic book sequence and the series is that Matt is speaking to Foggy Nelson in the former. As of now, Foggy Nelson has neither been recast nor confirmed to be in the series by bringing back Elden Henson. Regardless, the buzz elicited excitement from Daredevil comic book writer Charles Soule, who penned many of the superhero's issues in that era.

In the Daredevil comics, Matt Murdock's disbelief at Kingpin's rise to power prompts him to find a job at the mayor’s office where he works close to the criminal mastermind under the guise of his lawyer persona. Nevertheless, it remains to be seen how all that ties in within the wider MCU, as Kingpin was already a powerful crime boss in Hawkeye, so it’s unclear how he’ll transition into politics.

Perhaps Wilson Fisk manages to turn his near-death shooting incident with Echo into a propaganda stunt that nets him some political momentum among New Yorkers, or maybe the rumors pointing to Daredevil: Born Again taking place during the MCU's blip years are what explain the plot lines.

Daredevil: Born Again is scheduled for spring 2024.
