Danganronpa is one of the greatest murder-mystery trilogies of all time. The games take a bunch of talented high schoolers and places them in a twisted game where it's either kill or be killed. The end result is one of the most chaotic and fast-paced detective games around, where players need to use all their wits and follow the events of the case in order to nail the true suspect.

At the heart of most of these games is the enigma that is Junko Enoshima. Initially seeming like nothing more than a normal high-school student, it's revealed at the end of the first game, Trigger Happy Havoc, that Junko is the mastermind behind the killing games and the reason why the world was thrown into despair in the first place. Here are some things about this character that some players might not be aware of.

7 She Has No Likes Or Dislikes

For the most part, most characters in the game have certain likes or dislikes that are mentioned from the get-go, helping players get to know the characters they're trapped with. The sole exception to this rule is the legendary Junko Enoshima herself.

It makes sense as to why this twisted individual didn't even bother with providing this information. Junko's incredible analytical mind has already left her bored of life as is. Liking or disliking something requires passion, and the only thing that Junko is passionate about is spreading despair.

6 She's One Of Two Characters To Go Through Two Executions In The Series

Danganronpa Junko Enoshima

Given that Junko is the villain in the first two Danganronpa games, it only makes sense that she would the final "boss" to take down as well. This is precisely what happens in these two games, with Junko being executed at the very end of both Trigger Happy Havoc and Goodbye Despair.

In fact, this makes her one of the only two characters in the entire series to got through two executions. The only other character to suffer the same fate in the series was Chiaki, who was killed by Junko in real life (as seen in the anime) before her AI was executed in Goodbye Despair.

5 One Of Junko's Poses Is Inspired By Dio Brando

JoJo's Bizarre Adventure is one of the most popular shonen series of all time. This manga features an extremely iconic villain in the form of Dio Brando, who has become legendary in his own right.

In fact, one of the poses where Junko covers half her face is inspired by Dio as well. It's a great homage to an iconic anime villain who is beloved by the masses — and demonstrates Junko's own villainy.

Junko cosplay

Junko Enoshima had a major impact when she was revealed as the big baddie of the Danganronpa series. Her striking appearance and erratic personality instantly turned her into one of the most intriguing characters in the entire series.

In fact, Junko's popularity was so high in 2018 that she bagged the Guinness World Record for being the most popular game character for cosplay. It's a testament to how iconic her character became in a short span of time.

3 She Tried To Kill Mukuro Before The Events Of The Game

Mukuro and Junko in the anime

Junko's addiction to despair knew no bounds. In fact, she was so obsessed with the idea of feeling this negative emotion that she even sacrificed her own sister to experience the truest form of despair. Those who played Trigger Happy Havoc will remember the shocking moment when "Junko" (later revealed to be Junko's sister Mukuro in disguise) was speared several times through the chest.

The worst part is that this wasn't even the first time that Junko tried to kill her sister, although it was the first time she succeeded. In the Despair Arc of the Danganronpa 3 anime, Junko was seen trying to kill Mukuro in a car with an ice pick and a grenade. Thankfully, the younger sister managed to thwart Junko's attack.

2 She Murdered Her Boyfriend To Spiral Further Into Despair

Yasuke Matsuda in Danganronpa

Junko had a childhood friend named Yasuke Matsuda, who tried his hardest to bring Junko back from the depths of despair and make her sane again. He went through a ton of efforts in order to achieve the same, but all of this was ultimately for naught.

At the end of the day, even becoming Junko's boyfriend couldn't save Yasuke from his girlfriend's addiction to despair. In the Danganronpa Zero story, there's a scene where Junko stabs Yasuke before kicking his body beyond recognition...all so she could feel the strongest sense of despair at losing a loved one.

1 She Lost Her Memory After The Tragedy Of Hope's Peak Academy

The Tragedy of Hope's Peak Academy was one of the saddest moments in the history of Danganronpa, and marked the first event of a "killing" game orchestrated by Junko Enoshima. However, it seems that Junko would have to wait some time before resuming her despair-inducing actions.

This is because Yasuke wiped her memories after The Tragedy of Hope's Peak Academy ,and gave her a new identity in the form of Ryoko Otonashi instead. While Yasuke tried her highest to keep his closest friend sane, Junko soon remembered her origins and walked down the path of despair yet again.
