The Danganronpa franchise continues its expansion into the mobile space. Back in April developer Spike Chunsoft announced ports of the Danganronpa games on iOS and Android releasing throughout 2020, and now the second entry is ready to play.

Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair Anniversary Edition is available now worldwide on iOS and Android platforms. This is the second release in planned trilogy of franchise ports. The original game in the series, Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc, released in May as the "Anniversary Addition" and is now on sale for a limited time on both platforms. The game features improved touch controls, balance changes, and both English and Japanese voice options.

The news of Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair releasing on two platforms comes at a strange crossroads where it is about to be taken off another. Over the next month, the entire Danganronpa franchise will be taken off the PlayStation Network as developer Spike Chunsoft transitions to self-publishing. Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair for the PlayStation Vita will be removed from sale on September 4.

The reason the mobile ports being dubbed the "Anniversary Editions" is because 2020 marks the 10-year anniversary of the Danganronpa franchise. The last new title in the series was 2017's Danganronpa V3: Killing Harmony which has been a hotly debated entry within the franchise. Mobile players will get the chance to see what the fuss is about as a Danganronpa V3: Killing Harmony mobile port is planned.

While there is seemingly little ahead for the Danganronpa franchise outside of the mobile ports, the creator of the series is making his way as an independent developer. Kazutaka Kodaka, the creator and writer of the Danganronpa games, recently released his first independent project Death Come True, an FMV mystery game on numerous platforms.

Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair is available now on iOS, Android and PlayStation 4.
