Dan Harmon, the creator of Community and Rick and Morty, is creating a new animated series set in ancient Greece. The comedy show is officially a go at Fox, the result of Harmon's direct broadcast deal with Fox Entertainment.

Under the deal, it was announced that a new Harmon animated series was in the works and that it would premiere in 2022. Fox's Bento Box Entertainment, the same animation studio responsible for Bob's Burgers, will provide the animation for the new series. So far, it has been revealed that the untitled show will be set in ancient Greece and that it will focus on "a flawed family of humans, gods, and monsters that tries to run one of the world’s first cities without killing each other.” The voice cast has yet to be announced.

Harmon's past shows have become hits among viewers and have been praised for their mix of comedy and social commentary. NBC's Community lasted six seasons and the main cast has hinted that a future movie is a possibility. Meanwhile, Rick and Morty has been wildly successful among viewers and critics for its original humor and intelligent commentary and was renewed in 2018 for 70 more episodes.

Fox has also been putting more effort into adding to their animation block. This new series will join long-time running shows, The Simpsons, Bob's Burgers, and Family Guy, as well as newer shows like Duncanville, as part of Fox's growing list of animated programming.

With the promise that this show will deliver social commentary on today's "politics, celebrity, and pop culture," Harmon's new comedy is so far looking like a potential hit. However, it is questionable whether this new animated series will be able to measure up to the critically-acclaimed Rick and Morty. Dedicated viewers may be expecting a similar comedic tone to Rick and Morty, and it will be interesting to see how audiences react if Harmon decides to go in a different direction.

This new animated series builds even more anticipation among patient Dan Harmon fans. Fans were subject to a two-year wait for season 4 of Rick and Morty, so it's possible that this new series may premiere before we see a season 5 of Rick and Morty, which has yet to announce a premiere date.

Rick and Morty season 5 will air on Adult Swim.
