This article features major spoilers for the Cyberpunk: Edgerunners anime.

Cyberpunk: Edgerunners rose to popularity as soon as it was released in September, with a bunch of hype behind it due to it being an anime adaption of the hit video game Cyberpunk 2077. The anime features a fantastic cast of characters, with all of them having a unique style and personality. One of the characters that stand out the most visually is Rebecca, a short and rambunctious girl who's part of Maine's crew. Rebecca can be quite erratic and volatile when it comes to certain situations, but she's got a good heart deep down. It's clear that she cares deeply about those within Maine's crew in Night City, especially since her brother Pilar was part of it. Throughout the show, Rebecca is portrayed as a pretty violent person, never wanting to back down in a fight and always at the forefront of the battle with no remorse. This ties in with how faithful she is to the rest of her crew, consisting of Maine, Lucy, David, Pilar, Kiwi, and Dori.

While Rebecca is short in size, she sure packs a punch. She's got skin white as snow due to bodysculpting, and has vibrant pink tattoos on her body, including a large Mox tattoo on her neck. She tends to only be wearing an oversized jacket on top of her underwear, with sneakers that match the jacket detailing. One of the starkest features about Rebecca is her eyes, with her pupils being pink, red, and green, contrasting against her pale hair and skin.

Her Brother's Death

She's no stranger to profanities and is more than happy to dish out an insult here and there, all while retaining her playful personality. Rebecca even fights with her brother, Pilar, disagreeing with a lot of his behavior outside of crew activities. She promised to be the one to kill him one day, but that day never came after he was murdered by a cyberpsycho with a Projectile Launch System after he teased the individual who was affected by cyberpsychosis.

Understandably this angered Rebecca, and the rest of the crew, who instantly grabbed Dori's pistol to dual wield the guns as she attempted to kill the cyberpsycho. The whole time she's screaming and shouting at him, all while continuing to shoot bullets. Maine manages to restrain Rebecca, but she quickly escapes his grasp, showing how determined she is when it comes to battle, with no thought of the danger she's putting herself in. Maine ends up finally killing the cyberpsycho with a swift punch to the head, followed by Rebecca continuously shooting the head afterward while cursing.

Her Unrequited Feelings For David

Despite her violent tendencies, there are times throughout Cyberpunk: Edgerunners when viewers see her softer side, especially when it comes to David Martinez. She clearly has strong feelings for him and is incredibly loyal to David before and even after he takes over Maine's crew after his death. Sadly, these feelings are unrequited, with David being in a relationship with Lucy, but that doesn't phase Rebecca's ability to stay by David's side during missions.

There's a specific scene where David decides to cut the night short to visit the ripperdoc, and Rebecca is visibly irritated at not being able to spend some extra time with him, as she shouts "I ain't good at playing just friends". Kiwi catches on and tells Rebecca to alter her approach, and Rebecca replies with a joke about changing her appearance and personality to "cold, distant and nerdy".

Arguably, her strong exterior may be a cover for the softer side that she hides from everyone. It can be pretty jarring seeing her fawn after David, followed by a scene of her screaming as she uses her iconic pink guns. While she relishes in the chaos of Night City, it's obviously an extremely dangerous place to live, especially as an edgerunner. Like everyone else in the city, she's had to adapt to the constant risk around every corner, alongside her brother and crew.

While Rebecca's age is never disclosed, similar to Lucy's age, it's believed that they're both in their very early twenties, and they've both clearly had to deal with a lot of traumatic experiences despite their young age.

Her Loyalty

At such a young age, she's witnessed her brother be murdered violently right in front of her by a cyberpsycho, loses Maine and Dori during a mission, watches David undergo the early stages of cyberpsychosis, and sees him ultimately travel towards his death in the Militech Cyberskeleton suit. There's a poignant moment where David is fighting against his cyberpsychosis, and it's pretty clear to Rebecca that this is what will eventually kill him.

She stays by his side to join him in battle at ensures that she gives him every last drop of the cyberpsychosis treatment until there's none left. There comes a point where David hallucinates and sees Rebecca as his Mom, Gloria, and promises to reach the top of Arasaka tower, just as she wanted. Rebecca is shaken by this statement, as she realizes just how far David has sunk into his cyberpsychosis, and instead of trying to snap him out of it, she gently replies "Alright David, let's go to the top then".

Her Death

Once Lucy is saved from Faraday, Rebecca is clearly happy that she's safe but retains her hard exterior with a sly remark of "I'm glad you're back safe, for David's sake I mean". This makes it a heartbreaking scene, as just a few moments later Adam Smasher comes crashing down from above as Rebecca begins shooting at him, before being completely crushed by the impact of Adam reaching the ground in front of Lucy.

What makes Rebecca such a tragic character towards the end of the show, is the fact that despite David never returning the feelings she had for him, she still decided to stand by him no matter what, even until the end. She'd dealt with far too much in life already in spite of the fact that she was so young, and now fans will never get to see her reach her dreams.

While she didn't get much of a backstory, fans still adore her character and were deeply shocked by her unexpected and prompt death scene. She'll never get a chance to explain her history to David, and with Lucy being the only surviving crew member left, she now has to deal with a ton of grief. Cyberpunk: Edgerunners didn't give viewers much lore for Rebecca, but her powerful personality and quirks made her a likable character from the get-go.
