The Cyberpunk: Edgerunners anime quickly rose in popularity during its release in September 2022, and for good reason. It's an anime adaptation of the Cyberpunk 2077 video game, and while its launch wasn't the greatest, players are starting to notice a bounty of improvements as of late. While this article won't have major spoilers, please be advised that there will be some minor spoilers throughout. The anime adaptation has increased the player base of the game significantly due to how much fans love Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, with easter eggs from the show being placed within Cyberpunk 2077. The anime has a fantastic group of characters that have become fan-favorites already such as David Martinez, and Rebecca. However, the character that has captured the hearts of fans around the world, is Lucy.

Cyberpunk: Edgerunners is the newest release from Studio Trigger, the studio responsible for popular shows such as Darling In The Franxx, Kill La Kill, and SSSS.Dynazenon. They're well known for their unique and sharp art style, which made fans of Cyberpunk 2077 incredibly excited to see how Studio Trigger would adapt the colorful and rich world of Night City. Fans weren't disappointed with the end product, with all characters having colorful and expressive styles. Lucy's design features a bluntly cut pastel-colored bob with a white undercut, as well as pupils that seem to match her rainbow hair color. She wears bold red eyeliner and lipstick as she sports a bodysuit with a stylish cropped jacket.

3 Lucy's History

At a young age, Lucy underwent private training at a secret Arasaka facility to become a netrunner. After her training, the 12 children took part in deep dives underground to visit the pre-Data Krash Net to find information that Arasaka wanted to obtain. These deep dive sessions were extremely dangerous, leading to many of the participants meeting their demise while inside. Lucy and the remaining survivors used the skills they had learned to fight against Arasaka while escaping their clutch.

Afterward, Lucy found herself in the buzzing Night City, where she met Maine. She joined his edgerunner crew, alongside her mentor Kiwi. Lucy is first introduced to viewers in Cyberpunk: Edgerunners as a thief who steals the shards from Corpos. She ends up trying to steal David Martinez's shard but fails after David's Sandevistan implant allowed him to stop her before she could do anything. They eventually reached a decision to start working with each other as their combined abilities made Lucy's job swift and easy.

2 Lucy's Dreams

As Cyberpunk: Edgerunners is only a 10-episode anime, Lucy's backstory isn't delved into as much as it could have been. While it was touched upon and discussed briefly, it would have been a great opportunity for the creators to really knuckle down on Lucy's overall lore and history. At first, Lucy seems incredibly stern and serious, but once David Martinez gets to know her a little better, he discovers that her ultimate dream is to visit the moon.

There's a particular scene near the start of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners where Lucy and David are in a braindance on the moon and fans absolutely adore this scene. This is where they both realize they share the same passion for the moon, and both wish to live there one day with one-way tickets to the moon now readily available in Night City. This is when viewers get to see a deeper side to Lucy's hard exterior, with her true personality starting to appear before David's eyes, they form a bond that leads to a relationship.

1 A Deeper Understanding Of Lucy

Cyberpunk Edgerunners Cyberpsychosis Lucy Netflix

It wasn't long before fans of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners started to love Lucy. She's an extremely likable character despite the wall she puts up at first, but it's clear that she still holds on to bad memories of the past as she often avoids any discussion around her history. What makes Lucy so appealing to viewers is her overall attitude towards everything, she steps up for what she believes in and works hard to get what she wants. It's clear as day that she's a passionate individual who won't let anyone stop her from getting what she wants. This may be due to the fact that she had a tough upbringing, so she was forced to mature a lot faster than she should have.

While Night City is visually stunning, it's pretty obvious that it wouldn't be a great place to actually live in. Aesthetically, it looks brilliant, and it's miles away from what the world actually looks like, but underneath the pretty lights, there's a ton of danger. Lucy is adamant that she wants to leave Night City eventually, which is why she focuses on escaping to the moon. Fans of the show will agree that Lucy deserves a well-needed break, where can live her life peacefully away from the risks of Night City. While a second season would more than likely explore Lucy's character more, fans of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners will have to wait, with no second season announcements on the horizon, Lucy may forever be a mystery.
