Very few game launches of recent memory have been as disastrous as CD Projekt’s Cyberpunk 2077. After a long and arduous wait filled to the brim with delays, players across the globe were greeted to a technically impaired game upon release when Cyberpunk 2077 launched on PC and consoles in December 2020.

Between the disastrous launch and the subsequent removal of the game from digital storefronts, Cyberpunk 2077 became a cautionary tale for how delays are ultimately better than rushing a game out to meet release dates. Fans rarely talk about the game in a positive light nowadays, and there are plenty of reasons as to why it might be in the game’s best interest to make the jump to subscription services as soon as possible.

Why Now Is The Time Is Perfect For Cyberpunk 2077 On PS Plus and Xbox Game Pass

A recent tweet from PlayStation Game Size has suggested that Cyberpunk 2077 on current-gen consoles might be releasing sooner than later. In addition to the new cover art for the game, a release date for February or March has also been revealed. Given PlayStation Game Size’s mostly spotless track record, it seems highly likely that the rumor is indeed true.

However, as previously mentioned, fans don’t seem to have much faith in Cyberpunk 2077 which stems directly from the game’s disastrous launch and its less-than-stellar post-launch support. CD Projekt Red’s tight-lipped nature on the current-gen releases of Cyberpunk 2077 doesn’t instill much confidence either, so it seems fair to say that most fans wouldn’t likely want to spring up any money for the game - even if the new versions of the game are actually great.

As such, Cyberpunk 2077 making the jump to subscription services like Xbox Game Pass and PS Plus might be the perfect course of action. Fans who might be hesitant to try the game on both current-gen and previous-gen platforms will get to do so at no additional cost, which should then help spread good word of mouth. Those satisfied with the game’s quality would also be much more comfortable in springing up the asking price which should also prove beneficial to the rumored current-gen releases, making it the perfect time to make the jump to these services.

Cyberpunk 2077 Deserves Better

If Cyberpunk 2077 manages to garner a solid player base through Game Pass and/or PS Plus, it might just have a second shot at life which it certainly deserves. The tale of Cyberpunk 2077 is far from over, and there’s still a lot to look forward to. While the game’s seemingly ambitious multiplayer component has been canceled, CDPR has said that it will still be integrating some form of online functionality to all its games sometime in the near future. There’s also the promised DLC to look forward to, which could play a pivotal role in bringing fans back to the game.

Despite the many missteps that CD Projekt Red took with its latest release, many fans would agree that Cyberpunk 2077 deserves to be much more than just a cautionary tale. The game might still be far from ideal when it comes to technical stability, but it has certainly come a long way from its initial release and deserves to be experienced by a lot more fans, Beneath the thick layer of technical inefficiencies, there lies a mechanically rich RPG with well-written characters, meaningful content all set against a richly detailed futuristic dystopia. More people should definitely experience the story of V through the streets and skyscrapers of Night City. Of course, it’s ultimately the responsibility of the developer to entice players to take that journey - and right now, the game’s arrival on these subscription platforms just makes so much more sense than anything else.

Cyberpunk 2077 is available now on PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One with PS5 and Xbox Series X/S versions in development.
